Feelin’ It Friday

Hi, loves! It’s almost September!! I know technically Autumn doesn’t begin until September 23rd, but let’s be honest… I’ve been anticipating the season since last November July and I am READY for it! Now I’m just waiting for the weather to cool down a little so I can break out all of the scarves, boots and chunky knit sweaters… I can’t wait. It is kinda chilly in the mornings now; Matt started work early this morning (hello 6am alarm!) and our room was so cold when we woke up! I just want to say thank you so much for the love on Wednesday’s post – I got SO many lovely messages about it saying you guys felt inspired to declutter now too!

What I’m loving:
Matt was so sweet and bought me this beautiful grilled peaches and vanilla candle last weekend, and we’ve burned it every night since! We were smelling all the candles in the shop and this was by far the nicest, before I knew it he’d took it off to the till and paid for it. It’s sweet but not in a sickly way (Matt hates super sweet scents) and it really fills the whole room. I’ve been a little on the fence with Yankee Candle as a brand because SO many of their candles tunnel down the middle – even when cutting the wick – but this one is burning so evenly! The scent is part of the brunch collection which I think is being discontinued, so if you want to grab it you probably need to be quick! I’ve linked it here on Amazon but you can probably find it for cheaper in stores.

What product is making me happy:
The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Serum-in-Oil. You need it in your life!! This is not at all a new product to me, it’s hands down my favourite ever evening serum and something I talk about tons on the blog. BUT I ran out and was without it for around a week, then picked it up again last weekend and I’m so happy to have it in my routine again! I thought I had a backup and was so sad I didn’t. So I just bought two, hah! You know those products that you love and use every day, but don’t realise how much you rely on them? This serum is absolutely one of those! As I mentioned last week, my skin has been acting up so much recently but it has calmed down a little bit and I’m hoping it’s through the worst!

What I’m feeling good about:
I finally changed my pill! I know my audience is mostly female, so I don’t mind talking about this on the blog. I’ve spoke about this a few times in the past, but I changed my pill around this time last year and it’s made me feel sh*t ever since. Not every day or every week, but generally it wasn’t a good fit for my mental health, not to mention I put on so much weight since changing. (To clarify: I haven’t changed clothes sizes but I just feel ‘chubby’ compared to what I was. Matt is so supportive and sweet; he’s always telling me I look great, but you know when you just don’t feel yourself? That’s how I’ve felt for so long and I’m hoping switching pills will really help! Maybe less late night McFlurry runs would also help, but let’s not be drastic.) I was on the mini pill but I’ve gone back to a combined pill, so while I know it might make me feel a bit rubbish as the hormone levels change in my body, I have my fingers tightly crossed that I’ve made the right decision. I am recording how I feel each day right now, so fingers crossed a blog post may come out of that to help anyone else in the same situation!

What I’m doing this weekend:
Matt is unfortunately at work all weekend (boohoo) so we’re of course making the most of our mornings and evenings together, and taking all of our time together to just enjoy being at home. Tonight we’re making burgers and spending a little time with his parents, I love Friday evenings at the Scotney’s! He doesn’t start work until after 12pm, I’m going to cook us a fun breakfast (I will share with you next week if it’s any good!) and spend a lazy morning snuggled watching The Office on Amazon Prime. I’m spending Saturday afternoon preparing our favourite CrockPot meal for when Matt gets home – he doesn’t get back until after 9pm! – then doing nothing but work on the blog all day. I need to write my pre-planned posts for the next few weeks and take a ton of photos, which I’m actually really looking forward to. On Sunday Matt leaves for work pretty early, so I’m going to do our food shop, run a few errands and have a very chilled day! I also need to list more things on Depop so I’m going to hopefully finish that up too. Matt’s not home until a little later than usual as he’s going out after work for an hour or so, so I’m going to treat myself to a little pamper evening with my favourite face mask and my book, then we have SO MUCH Peaky Blinders to catch up on… I can’t wait!

What I’m reading:
I started reading Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams last week and I’m only around half way through because I’ve only been reading a few pages at at time the past few nights. I LOVE this book so much; it’s funny, the characters are relatable, the writing flows so well and I just absolutely love the story. This would be a perfect beach read, if you’re going away soon I’d definitely recommend picking it up! I also wrote a huge post all about how I find time to read and my book recommendations last Sunday, I’d love if you could check that out. Warning: it’s VERY long. Cuppa required.

What is changing on the blog:
Okay so I’m not sure if this is definitely going to be the case, but we may have a temporary change where you’ll only see two posts each week from me, instead of three. My Wednesday posts are probably going to be non-existent, and my Sunday posts may be up on a Monday from time to time. Maybe. If that happens, please bare with me! September is a super busy month for Matt and I; it’s our anniversary, we have family visiting, our weekends are crazy busy and both Matt and I have busier than usual weeks at work. I don’t want to rush to put up posts I’m not really happy with, so if I need to I’m going to cut back a little bit, and still hopefully get good quality posts up! Now that I write longer, more detailed posts, they take a little extra planning and they take way longer to write and edit. As always, taking photos is always the hardest thing to make time for (I’m SO BAD at taking photos, too) but it’s about the main written content, right?

What I’m excited about:
I literally can’t believe it’s almost Matt and I’s two year anniversary! Our official anniversary is on September 16th, but we were ‘dating’ for a while before that. We had known each other for years before, and I still can’t believe how lucky I am! We can’t celebrate on the day due to Matt’s work schedule, so we’re just going to have a cute night at home on our actual anniversary. We are however having a mini celebration the weekend before (dinner at our favourite restaurant, of course) and we’re planning a weekend getaway in October when life is (hopefully) a little quieter. We haven’t been able to confirm dates yet but we’re doing a mini UK city break to a city we’ve never been to before, and I’m SO excited! Can you guess where?!

What else is new:
Nothing much, to be honest! Considering it was a bank holiday I feel like this has been a really long week and I really wish it was another long weekend. Aren’t they just the best?! My WIML post from last weekend will be up on Wednesday, we had so much fun in Stamford and I seriously LOVED the place! It was super cute and quaint, and (I think) exactly what Americans think all of England looks like… you know?! Haha, I can’t wait to share our photos!

Thank you so much for reading! I’m sorry this post was a little shorter than most, I promise next weeks will be way more fun 🙂 what has your week looked like? Are you excited for the weekend? I hope your plans are more fun than ours. We are however looking forward to next weekend SO MUCH; I can’t wait to share our plans with you! What are you up to this weekend? Please leave your blog posts from the week below because I’m also going to take a little time on Sunday to catch up on everything I’ve missed recently!

Decluttering 101: The Wardrobe Edit

Hi, loves! A few weeks ago Matt was working all weekend and I took a whole day to clear the heck out of the wardrobes. When he left for work I immediately pulled out a whole rail of clothing so I couldn’t decide not to do it, and the second he got home from work I rushed him upstairs to see all my hard work, ha! I owned so many clothes, but not many brought me joy, and I was feeling a little deflated every time I looked in my wardrobes to try put an outfit together. Matt is so good at buying high quality items he loves that last him for years, and up until the past year that wasn’t something I did. I bought any old junk just because I thought it would come in handy and I also had some weird emotional attachment to my old clothing. Realistically I had a wall of wardrobes full to the brim, yet I constantly felt like I had nothing to wear. I shop smarter now but I really needed a clear canvas to work with; I just wanted to love everything I owned and so decided a major purge was on the cards!

I feel SO GOOD now about getting ready in the mornings or evenings, and I’m so happy I decided to bite the bullet and spend six hours – yes, really – working on this. Putting outfits together is way more fun (and easier), and I know what gaps I have in my wardrobe for things to purchase moving into Autumn, so my shopping list has pretty much wrote itself. I may have already began purchasing my Autumn clothing… I’m just so excited! My wardrobes look so much better and are properly organised, and Matt has a little more room now too which makes me so happy. Hopefully in the next year or so we’ll have our own house but for now we’re so happy and grateful with our set up; for anyone that doesn’t know we live between our family houses whilst we save for our own home. Matt and I know how lucky we are to be able to do this; we get to be together every night – which is just the best thing, I love him so much! – and our family’s love having us there with them, (or so they tell us, haha). We tend to spend more evenings at my family’s house due to Matt’s shifts, so I really wanted to make more space for Matt in our wardrobes. In this post I’m sharing my recommended tips and tricks for a major declutter, but where to start? First of all, turn on Netflix to watch all of Tidying Up With Marie Kondo. Then read this blog post on why I love her so much. Then, you’re about ready to go:

Clear out one section at a time
This is the only thing I disagree with in Marie Kondo’s teachings. She advises to dump out everything in one go, but I feel like that’s a little too overwhelming for me personally, and I’d rather be able to take a break if/when needed; I don’t think a clear out has to be done in one sitting if you don’t want to. I think it’s better to look at your clothing in one category at a time, maybe even sub-categories depending how much you own, as I find it easier to focus on one thing at a time. (I don’t know why because in regular everyday life I’m doing thirty things at once!) I also like this method because I prefer to re-organise where things are kept as I go; this time I put all of my t-shirts, short sleeves, camis etc high up in my wardrobe, and moved long sleeved t-shirts, blouses, thin knit sweaters etc to the bottom. It’s easier to place things in your wardrobe in a way that makes sense to you as you’re getting dressed or picking outfits out to pack, and once you start the process it becomes much easier.

Clean out all shelving, drawers and rails as you go
Do not leave ANYTHING in your wardrobe as you clear out. Nothing at all. You might know you love that plaid shirt you always wear or the grey jumper you just bought, but you still need to see each piece to make sure you’re keeping only things you love. If you have similar clothing pieces – how many white blouses does one gal need? – this is also a good time to cull the ones you don’t reach for very often. I also take the time whilst everything is off the shelf, out of the drawer or off the rail to fully clean and wipe down. Method’s all purpose cleaner is brilliant for this, I’m still obsessed with the Wild Rhubarb scent!

Make three piles per category: donate, keep and sell
The one basic of a wardobe clear out is always to make these three piles, right? This is also great when you’re working by category (or, sub category if you’re super type A *raises hand*) as you can put away your keep piles as you go, and organise your donating/selling piles easier.

Identify any items you feel like your wardrobe is missing
Maybe you are changing your style up, maybe you’ve thrown out or donated all of your jeans because you realised you didn’t like any, or maybe you just realised a few basics that were missing from your wardrobe, but take this as the opportunitory to take inventory. As I mentioned in this post, I found a few obvious gaps where I was lacking in my wardrobe and made a list (of course, I LOVE a list) of things to pick up over the next few months. This makes it much easier when shopping, as you begin to shop intentionally and to choose things that go with what you already own.

Be ruthless: if it doesn’t bring you joy you don’t need it
I used to be very sentimental with my clothes but I’m really not anymore, I feel like if it doesn’t benefit me and I don’t feel good wearing it there’s no need to keep it anymore. Goodbye, size 6 jeans. I think a really good rule of thumb for this is asking yourself “if you were shopping in a store right now, would you buy X?” If the answer is no, you don’t need it in your wardrobe because it obviously doesn’t bring you joy. Also, do not keep hold of items that once fit you but now don’t! It will make you miserable seeing them every day, life’s just too short.

Give every item a home
One of the biggest problems I found with my wardobes being messy is that not everything had it’s own home, therefore when things were ‘out of place’ there was nowhere for them to go. Storage bins are great for miscellaneous items that are otherwise hard to store, like scarves! I rolled all of my scarves and stores them in a storage bin which means I can see them all at a glance and pick one out so much easier.

Remove seasonal pieces that won’t be worn in the next six months
If you don’t have a lot of space in your wardrobe(s), then you need to make sure you utilise it wisely. If you still struggle for space after your clear out, I’d recommend storing your Spring/Summer specific clothing during the Autumn/Winter months, and vice versa, to limit your wardrobe looking like a clothing explosion. If you have underbed storage or a loft, that will probaly work best. Buy large sealable bins to make sure your clothes don’t get damp in a loft space, just make sure you don’t forget they’re there. I actually no longer need to do this as I have enough space to store everything at once since my clear out which makes me very happy!

Maintain your organisation
Consistency is key, after all. As tempting as it can sometimes be to say you’ll put your clean clothes away at a later date/time, just do it there and then. You worked hard to clear everything out, and you owe it to yourself to maintain your efforts. It also takes literally five minutes, so you have no excuse! Having a ‘one in, one out’ system when buying new items is a great way to ensure you don’t need to have a clear out of the same scale again, but I’d definitley recommend reviewing your wardrobe every 3-6 months to make tweaks here and there.

Now… relax. Grab a cup of tea. Admire your hard work!

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you found this post helpful and are able to completely clean out your wardrobes too. I feel like that ~fresh~ feeling everyone gets in January is something I feel in Autumn, and this year I’m so ready for it. We’re making a start on Matt’s wardrobes and drawers in the next week or two and I’m so excited, it’s way more fun to be brutal with the ‘donate’ and ‘sell’ piles of someone else’s clothes 🙂 for real though, it feels so good to be organised and to love everything in my wardrobe again. I literally found so many pieces of clothing I forgot I owned, how is that even possible?! Do you need a wardrobe declutter too? Is there any extra tips you have to share with me and my readers? Please leave them below!

How I Find Time To Read & My Current Picks

Hi, loves! Today’s post is one I’ve teased on the blog for a little while, and I’m so happy to be writing about BOOKS. *Warning: it’s a long one, and perfect if you want to carve out a little self care time this bank holiday weekend. I’d recommend you grab a cuppa and settle in!* I love love love reading and it’s something I really wish more people were passionate about. Don’t get me wrong, I know lots of people love to read, but I really don’t know that many people who do! I have loved reading since I was a child; my parents and grandparents always read to me whenever they had time to, and I learned to read so quickly myself. I read my beloved Jacqueline Wilson books so many times I swear I knew the stories off by heart! When I was around 10 or 11, I was helping my granddad clear out a bunch of stuff, and discovered all of my mum and auntie’s old books by Enid Blyton. He kindly gave them to me, and I spent the rest of my summer engrossed in those books! The Secret Seven and Famous Five series ignited a serious love of reading (and dogs – I wanted my own Timmy SO BAD) and I’m forever grateful. I literally spent so many nights in my lilac groovy chick themed bedroom, curled up with a blanket and a book thinking I was so grown up. Ha!

In the years since then, I’ve never lost the joy in browsing book stores, talking about books and of course, reading them. I literally can’t walk past a bookstore without dragging Matt in ‘for a look’ – although, if you’re on a budget (aren’t we all?) have a perusal in store and check the prices on Amazon whilst you’re there; I can pretty much guarantee you’ll always get a better deal on Amazon! No, this post isn’t sponsored by Amazon, I just really love it.

Whenever I talk about my love of reading I am often met with “I wish I had time to read”. News flash: everyone has time to read. Let’s be honest; if Michelle Obama can find time to read, so can you. I have time to read so often because I literally set time aside to do so; making reading a priority is really important to me and it makes the world of difference to my mental health. It’s the perfect self care treat for me (along with a pamper evening and a cuddle from Matt, of course) and it truly opens your mind to SO much you may otherwise not know. Books can cover all different topics, issues and situations, and it’s crazy how much you can learn from a book. My mum and Matt’s mum share my love of reading, and we’re always swapping our current reads, like an unofficial book club! So, how do I find time to read? What are my top tips to help you make reading a priority?

Keep your book on your bedside table
Possibly the most obvious tip, but it makes sense guys. I always keep my current book on our bedside table, and take a little time to read most evenings/mornings. Matt often has to send a few work emails just before we settle in for the night so I take those twenty or so minutes to read a few chapters and get my reading fix. Similarly, he starts work early several times per week (which means a 6am alarm for us both) and I also take a little time once he’s left for work, before I blog or get ready for my work day, to read too. It’s a lovely way to begin or end your day, and if you’re struggling to fit reading time in, this will make a huge difference.

Set goals
Like with anything else, setting goals to read X amount each day/week, will make you hold yourself accountable, and make reading a priority. I love to set goals and have things to work towards, so of course this is no exception! I really think being able to tick a goal off a list helps to visualise it; of course this is a very niche goal but if you want to read more you need to treat it seriously. Maybe you could set out a week Monday to Sunday in the Notes app on your phone, using the bullet point system you can tick off, and then you can see how many days out of seven you read each week. Doing this week by week until it becomes a habit (which it should within two months, as scientists say on average it takes 66 days to create a habit) means that within a really short space of time reading would just become part of your everyday life!

Incorporate reading into your day-to-day life
Similarly to reading before bed or first thing in the morning, it’s amazing where you can fit time in to read. If you spend hours scrolling mindlessly on social media (your phone literally tells you how much time you spend now so you can’t avoid it) you could easily spend at least some of that with a book in your hand instead. I love to read in the bath, I seriously take super long baths just to be able to read for longer, and it’s the ultimate self care time for me. Matt sometimes spends a little time in the evenings working or playing on the playstation, which gives me a good chunk of time to read and not feel guilty about it! I also will spend a little time reading whilst sitting in the garden when it’s warm, or on a cold day I love to curl up with a cuppa and a book. I really should take my lunch break at work away from my desk, as that would be the perfect time to rack up some reading time.

Read digitally on your iPad/Kindle/phone
If you find reading a struggle or would just like to switch things up, I’d really recommend downloading a book onto your tablet or phone. I have been really enjoying reading on the Kindle app on my iPad recently; it’s so convenient as I always have my iPad with me anyway, and it’s very accessible no matter where I am. Downloading books onto a tablet is so handy when travelling too; it limits the weight/bulkiness of books (although I do think you can’t beat a ‘real’ book!) and it allows you to take several options, not to mention ebooks are way less money than a physical book. I am still so mad at myself for not picking up a Kindle Paperwhite during the Prime Day(s) sale, and it’s very high on my wishlist right now.

Carry a book with you day-to-day
If reading on a tablet is not for you I totally get that, but you need to carry your book with you if you want to make the most of reading time as and when you can. If you take public transport to work I’d really recommend making the most of your journey time and lose yourself in a book (just make sure not to miss your stop). Side note: I drive to work each day, and spend lots of time during the week in my car; I’m tempted to try Audible but it’s just not something that’s crossed my mind before. Please let me know if you would recommend! If you’re going somewhere where you may be waiting around, hospital appointments spring to mind right away, pack a book and the wait definitely won’t seem so bad.

Find authors and genres you find interesting
Another thing people tell me, is that they have the time to read, but they can never find a book they actually want to read. This is a little trial and error, but if you put the effort in to finding what makes your heart sing, you’ll see the benefit of it. Personally, I love fiction stories that feel like you’re right in with the characters but as you’ll see from my current picks below, I do like varied content. I really want to read more mystery books as I’ve borrowed a few from my mum that I’ve enjoyed, so that’s something I need to explore more in the coming months. It’s the best feeling finding an author you love, as you are drawn to their writing style and therefore can find so many books. Amazon’s ‘Recommended for you’ section pretty much always brings up amazing options, and I’ve found so many books I love that way!

My current favourite author is hands down Taylor Jenkins Reid. Two books I’ve read (and loved) recently are Forever, Interrupted and After I Do; both books are filled with love, heartbreak, sadness and happiness, and you truly feel like you’re experiencing the emotions of the lead characters. Zoe Folbigg is an amazing author and I’ve loved every book of hers I’ve read! I just finished The Postcard, which was the sequel to The Note, and it left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Two books that changed my life (in different ways) are Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton and How To Be A Grown Up by Daisy Buchanan. I’ve read both several times; they’re incredible and would make for brilliant presents for the gals in your life!

Michelle Obama’s Becoming is a must read for everyone, everywhere; she is, in my opinion, the most inspirational woman of our generation and I’m so happy she shared her story. The best non-fiction book I’ve ever read was This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay; I don’t know anyone who disliked this book, it’s filled with so much emotion – I’d literally be laughing one page and sobbing the next – it’s a must read. If you like books that let you escape from every day life, I’d suggest anything by Elin Hilderband. She writes about Nantucket (and Martha’s Vineyard) in so much depth I feel like I’ve been there myself; it’s a book that takes you on holiday from real life, and her stories are always so enticing. My favourite book of hers is hands down The Identicals. I’ve just downloaded a new Elin Hilderbrand book called The Perfect Couple (and One Minute Later by Susan Lewis) onto my Kindle app for literally 99p each! Order while you can! Shoutout to the lovely Savannah for originally recommending Elin Hilderbrand books to me!

Some of my current ‘to read’ list include the last in a wonderful series by Louise Pentland; Wilde Women. Louise is someone I’ve loved and admired for years, from way back to her Sprinkle of Glitter days, and I’m so happy that she’s began to write. She writes from the heart, her characters are lovable and I’m so excited to see what is happening with Robin, Lyla and Kath in the final installment! Queenie is a book I saw in Anna‘s reading pile and immediately purchased (the girl just knows her books, and also wrote a cracking book herself, An Edited Life) and I’m so excited to read; the book talks all about love, life and race issues and has rave reviews. Another author I’m very interested in is Jane Fallon, I often see her books featured on Instagram and I need to order one soon!

Thank you so so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed this post and found my tips and tricks helpful in some way. Can you believe my boyfriend (who is perfect in every other way, if I do say so myself) doesn’t like to read?! He’s literally been ‘reading’ the same book since Christmas 2017… maybe you take a few pointers from this post, Matthew?! Ha. So, are you a bookworm like me? Where’s your favourite way to make time to read? I’d love to share my favourite books every few months if that’s something you’d be interested in? Please leave me all your book recommendations below, I love to hear what other people are reading!

Feelin’ It Friday

Hi, loves, happy FRIDAY! This one is extra happy because it’s bank holiday weekend! There’s something about a bank holiday weekend that just makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside isn’t there? Not to be that person, but it’s also the last one until Christmas. How the heck are we a week away from September?! Today’s post is my tenth #feelinitfriday, and I’m so excited to share what’s going on in my life this week with you all.

What I’m loving:
Our pretty sheets! I think my feature photo for today’s post was probably pretty random but I literally can’t get over how cute our new bedding set is, I’m in love! Matt loves it too which makes me very happy, normally he couldn’t care less (like he wouldn’t even notice when I change our bed unless I tell him, haha) but this set is so beautiful! I love the mix of navy blue with blush pink and white, I just need to find pretty blush pink pillows for our bed. If you have seen any I should look at please let me know! I picked this set up from the Fox & Ivy collection in Tesco; it was on MAJOR sale and I got it for £13.50. Like, that blows my mind!

What I’m wearing:
I am OBSESSED with mom jeans, I literally can’t get enough of them! I’ve been wearing the Tori style mom jeans from New Look pretty much every day I haven’t been at work over the past few weeks and they’re absolutely my favourite thing in my wardrobes. They’re super roomy, comfy and really flattering; they’re the only jeans that I can comfortably wear all day, to the point I’m even travelling in them this weekend! (Any regular readers will know I can not stand being in jeans for longer than a few hours, so this is a big deal!) I really want to pick up a few different washes of this fit as I’m pretty sure they’re all I’m going to wear during the Autumn and Winter months. Do you have a favourite style of Mom jeans I should try too?

What I’m watching:
We’re still watching The Office and we LOVE it. Baby John Krasinski is just melting our hearts!! I can’t believe it’s taken us this long to watch but we literally LOL throughout each episode, it’s definitely our new favourite show. But, this past Saturday we watched a Stacey Dooley documentary that I can’t stop thinking about it. As all regular readers will probably know, I’m kinda obsessed with Stacey Dooley and I love all of her docs! This one was focused on the impact Boko Haram have had and are still having in Nigeria and it was such a hard watch. She spoke to lots of women who had varying views, and it was unbelievable to see what their day-to-day life was like because of the fighting. I always find it fascinating to get an inside look into something I know very little about, and it’s crazy how level headed and sweet Stace is even in the most dangerous places. If you’re based in the UK you can watch it here – I’d really recommend it, along with all of her other documentaries!

What is making my life so much better:
Having my iPad back has seriously made my week. I feel like it’s a completely new gadget, and I’ve been reaching for it all day every day! Matt is sick of hearing me talk about it I’m sure, hahaha. I have done lots for the blog on it, and just really am enjoying how handy it is to carry around with me. I downloaded the Kindle app (more on that in Sunday’s post – what a tease) and I am LOVING reading books digitally again. I’d used iBooks for the longest time, but the Kindle app is 10000 x better, and it’s super cheap. I ordered One Minute Later by Susan Lewis and The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand for just 99p each!! 99p?! The paperbacks are around £8 each so that’s a crazy deal. I’m a sucker for a bargain and that made my week. I still love reading ‘real’ books of course, and I just purchased two new ones (Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams and Queenie by Candace Carty-Williams).

What I’m stressing about:
My skin is playing up big time. As someone who has suffered with cystic acne in the past, I know I’m lucky to have ‘just’ a few spots, but in comparison to how good my skin has been in recent months having breakouts is making me feel really quite sh*t. I don’t know why but every few months my skin freaks out and nothing clears it up. I have been really anxious and felt down the past couple of weeks which is probably the cause, but it’s still so annoying! If you’ve struggled with your skin in the past or if you still do, you’ll know how disheartening and upsetting it can be, and hiding under makeup is not the right thing to do but that’s pretty much what I’m doing right now. Matt was out with the guys he used to work with for a few hours last night so I treated myself to a pamper night with my favourite face mask which seems to have helped a little, but I know I just need to ride it out. And drink lots of water. I’m hoping by some miracle my skin will be perfect when Matt and I wake up tomorrow morning ready for our weekend, but something tells me that isn’t going to happen.

What I’m up to this weekend:
I’m literally wishing away my Friday because I’m just so excited to travel this weekend! Matt doesn’t finish work tonight until 9pm, so I’m going to make the most of having a hot bubble bath, reading my book and finishing up anything I need to do before we leave tomorrow. I’m picking him up from work then we’re heading straight to grab a takeaway, and snuggle in to watch an episode or two of The Office! We’re all packed up, our snacks are ready to go and we are so excited to get to our cute little apartment for the weekend. We’re spending the whole weekend exploring, visiting with Matt’s family and just completely relaxing, it’s exactly what we need.

What is my new favourite treat:
Hahaha okay, that was the weirdest way to word it! Matt and I are OBSESSED with Tony’s Chocolonely, specifically this flavour in milk chocolate, caramel & sea salt. It’s like no other chocolate I’ve eaten, it’s super creamy and just tastes fancy shmancy but doesn’t cost the earth. Y’know? Let’s be honest, the packaging reminds me of a Wonka Bar which kinda makes me love it more. I’ve seen Anna talking about it for so long, and I’d made a mental note to keep an eye out for it in stores, it’s definitely worth the hype. I already picked up a few more bars and also found the cutest mini bars (yep, I’m totally keeping one as my emergency chocolate bar). If you haven’t tried it yet, BELIEVE THE HYPE! You need it in your life!

What I’m excited about:
Okay I know I can’t stop banging on about Autumn, but I really am SO excited that Lush’s Autumn collection will be released very soon! The Autumn and Christmas collections from Lush are always my favourite; the scents, colours and designs appeal to me so much more because I just love this time of year! My lovely co-workers got me a Lush gift card for my birthday (back in MAY) that I’ve still not used, and I can’t wait to put it towards a little Autumn haul. I’ll for sure be sharing what I pick up on the blog! I also am super excited Zoe Sugg is collaborating with them to make a bath bomb that comes out soon; way back in the OG YouTube days her Lush hauls (and many others) were some of my favourite videos to watch, so I’m very intrigued to try it!

What else is new:
So any regular readers will know I’ve been anticipating packing for our trip this weekend (pretty much just because I bought packing cubes during the Prime Day(s) sale) and I seriously cannot believe how much you can fit into your suitcase when packing with them! If you’re on the fence I 100% recommend picking some up, the ones I got are from the Amazon Basics collection and they’re such good quality; I did get them at a really good deal but I would pay full price knowing how good they are. I love the colour too, they’re super neutral and made packing SO easy. My packing post went live on Wednesday, you can catch it here if you missed it!

Our favourite meals from the week:
If you missed last week’s #feelinitfriday you may not know that I started a new segment in these posts! Matt and I love to cook different meals each week, and although we definitely have out favourites we really love to try new recipes out! This week we’ve been super busy and Matt has had a few late shifts, so I’ve been cooking solo for him coming home most of the week. We had two of our staple easy meals this week; gammon steaks with mash and veggies and grilled cod with veggies, both are delicious and so filling! We did try something new on Wednesday evening that we got to cook together, and made pizza meatballs. Dinner was delicious, and I’m so glad we made it! As always we tweaked the recipe (we served with our favourite rigatoni from Aldi, and I added plum tomatoes, peppers and onions – Matt likes to joke that I put peppers in EVERYTHING, he says it’s a wonder I don’t put them in cereal hahaha). The only thing we’d do differently next time is we’d put a lot more sauce in as I only added a spoonful to each meatball, but we don’t love ‘dry’ pasta so much. I’m going to miss cooking this weekend but I’ve already planned our meals for next week, I’ll be happy to get back into our routine after our trip!

Thank you so much for reading, I still can’t believe this is my tenth #feelinitfriday! It literally seems five minutes since I wrote my first one – I’m so glad you guys like these posts and they’re definitely going to be sticking around on the blog 🙂 what have you been up to this week? Have you been loving any particular products? I’m so excited for Sunday’s post, it’s about one of my favourite things… BOOKS! I picked Matt up pretty late last night and we didn’t get into bed until well after 11pm… I’m SUCH a granny and that is so late for us hahaha, I’m exhausted! I hope our Friday’s go super quick and that you all have a wonderful bank holiday weekend with your loved ones!

Pack With Me: A Weekend Break

Happy Wednesday, loves! I’m so excited for this weekend for several reasons… especially because it’s bank holiday! Who doesn’t love three day weekends? I just wish they were every week. Secondly, Matt and I are going away for the weekend, which is our favourite thing to do. Thirdly, we’re visiting with Matt’s family! We’re so excited to spend time with them, admire the beautiful countryside and explore the cute little town we’re staying in. It’s so much hotter down South, and we are very excited to spend our last Summer weekend in the sun. I know Autumn technically doesn’t start until almost the end of September, but for me as soon as August is out, I’m all about Autumn. Who am I kidding, I’ve been ready for Autumn since JULY, lol! We’re also getting to squeeze in one more road trip, and boy do we love road trips! (Also, I’m so sorry about these photos. I know they’re not great I just didn’t have time to take better ones, please forgive me!!)

As any regular readers will know, I love packing whether it’s for a short trip or a holiday – just search ‘packing’ in the side bar and a ton of posts will come up – so I wanted to share with you all what I’m packing for our last weekend of Summer! In just a few weeks we’ll be living in coats, boots, scarves and hats (I’m SO excited, I can’t pretend I don’t love Autumn!) but it’s probably one of the last times we’ll be able to wear minimal clothing here in the UK. I’m extra excited to pack this time because, I finally get to make good use of our packing cubes that I purchased during Prime Day(s)!

When packing skincare products and toiletries for a short trip, I try to pack pretty minimal. I don’t need options and I don’t need products I’ve only just started trying out; if I’m going to get breakouts or irritated skin you can just guarantee it’s when we’re away from home! For that reason I like to take tried and tested products that my skin loves, and keep it super simple and easy with my skincare. As you’ll see in an upcoming post, I’m currently obsessed with Pixi’s new Vitamin C Tonic, it’s working miracles for my skin! I love to take sheet masks with me when we’re travelling as they make for great pick-me-up’s if you’re skin is feeling a little naff, and they’re super easy with no mess if you only have ten minutes whilst you’re getting ready for the day or evening.

For my toiletries, I like to take small travel-sized products because this isn’t where I want to take up a lot of space. I decant my favourite shampoo and conditioner as I really don’t like to mix up my hair products; when I find something that works I run with it. I can save space to be without my trusty banana hair mask from The Body Shop (just for a few days!) and I really try not to overpack. Matt shares whichever shampoo and shower gel I take, but he’s not at all fussed what I choose. We’re staying in an apartment that provides a hairdryer – something you should always check before you travel – and I’ll probably only wash my hair once anyway.

I find makeup is the hardest thing to be minimal with as I like to switch up my products, and I don’t know how my skin will react whilst we’re away. We all have good skin days and bad skin days, so I just have to hope for the best that my makeup will cover any imperfections (and last all day/night). Lip products are the hardest for me to cull (hence taking five) but I’d definitely rather have ‘too many’ options than not enough, and they’re so little they take up hardly any space anyway! I really really love my new Pillowtalk eyeshadow palette, it’s by far the prettiest palette I’ve ever owned and it creates the most beautiful looks.

I always like to travel in something comfy, and normally I’d stay away from jeans at all costs. However, when I was clearing out my wardrobe – my post is finally coming on that next week – I re-discovered a pair of Tori mom jeans I forgot I owned. I’ve since bought another pair (which I can’t find online, sorry!) and I love them so much. They’re comfortable, forgiving and don’t make me feel like my waist is being cut off, and they’re super cute! I’m pairing with a cute slogan t-shirt – how perfect is this ‘long weekend’ tee from J Crew?! – a cosy cardigan and my comfiest Adidas Coast star trainers, as our travel day is also our first day in Stamford and we’re going to be doing a lot of visiting with family and exploring.

We’re not too sure on our our plans for Saturday night but we do know we’re going out for dinner, so I’ve packed a midi skirt with a black cami and option of a black t-shirt just depending of how I feel. Paired with my super comfortable black heeled sandals, this is such an easy outfit and one that I know I’ll feel good in! On Sunday we’re up early for a breakfast date and another day of exploring/visiting family, so I’m going with a slogan t-shirt and a midi skirt, again paired with my Adidas trainers. On Sunday night we’re going out for dinner with Matt’s cousins and their partners, and I’m not sure where we’re going so packed two options, just incase. The first being (you guessed it) my favourite Zara leopard print midi skirt with cami, and the second a blouse and jeans. Both of the outfits work with my black heeled sandals so I don’t need to take any other shoes! I find making sure your shoes, bag and jewellery work with any outfit option is key, and really helps you to not overpack.

On Monday we’re unfortunately heading back up North, so again I’m opting for those same jeans I wore on the way down (with the option of leggings, depending how much I eat over the weekend LOL) and a slouchy Levi’s tee. I find that I’m always wearing a t-shirt these days, they’re my favourite because they’re cute, comfy and go with anything. I’ve packed an extra comfy cardigan to keep me warm if I get a little chilly; I’m always cold and I know Matt will have the air con on during the drive down! The only other clothing items I’m taking are underwear and my cutest silky pajamas (they’re on sale right now and perfect for the upcoming Autumn months!) so I can get ready comfortably at the apartment – I never sleep in pj’s but I have an obsession with buying them!! I also always overpack my underwear; for a three day trip I literally will take ten pairs. I don’t know why but I’ve done this ever since I can remember, it’s such a bad habit!

The jewellery I’m taking is just my regular everyday stuff that I always wear; my Pandora rings, Pandora bracelet, Missoma initial necklace (I added the moon charm) and my Fitbit. I don’t like to have to continuously swap out jewellery so keep it pretty simple, although I do wish I was able to accessorize my outfits the way others do. I also am only taking one bag, my trusty little Whistles Verity backpack – I’ve owned this for at least three years and it still looks good as new – it’s super roomy which is perfect for during the day and it can work for the night times too. Also, does anyone else’s boyfriend/husband always give them tons of things to carry when you’re out?! I swear I have three things of my own in my bag then Matt’s sunglasses, wallet, car key etc take up so much space, hah!

My favourite category to pack is always the miscellaneous stuff because I feel like that’s one category you can’t really cut down and the over-packer in me relishes in it! Matt and I very rarely travel with our laptops because we just don’t really need them, but taking my iPad is SO easy and it means we can use it to watch a little Netflix or Amazon Prime, and I can read on it. I also like to record any blogging info on the go and sometimes I prefer to do this on my phone, sometimes on my iPad, it just depends on the day! I think pretty much all hotels/air bnb’s have wifi these days, and it’s never been an issue for us before. Of course we make sure to take our chargers, I always take the book I’m currently reading and Matt loves his Four Four Two magazines. I can’t go on a road trip without my car blanket, and we both love to take snacks, they’re the best part of a road trip! We’ve stocked up on Sweet & Smokin’ Hippeas, Tony’s Chocomolonely and all of the Haribos… *makes mental note to pack bananas and trail mix*

Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed having a sneak peek into what I packed! I know people love posts like this – me too! – and I’m pretty sure it’s just because we’re all super nosy, LOL. Do you have any fun plans for the bank holiday weekend? Are you going away for the weekend too? I’m going to be recording a Weekend In My Life/Travel Diary post, so that will be up soon. I’m making it my goal to get a cute full length picture of Matt and I, we barely ever get good photos together and it’s something we always get mad about!

A Beauty Haul & First Impressions

Hi, loves! So, I did a thing. I spent too much money on a few new makeup items BUT I’m sharing them with you on the blog so they’re totally justified. Right? Maybe not. I really don’t buy new makeup too often, only usually to replace something I’ve ran out of, so it was SO exciting to try out new products ‘just for fun’! I purchased all of these products over a month or so, and I made great use of my Feel Unique discount! I did buy most of these with Autumn in mind, so the tones are little warmer; they’re perfect transitional colours as we move out of Summer into my favourite time of the year.

Charlotte Tilbury Eyeshadow Palette in Pillowtalk
Guys. I’m in love. And not just with my boyfriend. Seriously, I’ve never found a more perfect eyeshadow palette, this is a dream! There is one slight issue that I’ll just get out of the way now; the bottom left glitter shade is pretty hard to work with; I have to wet my brush with Mac Fix + to get a good colour pay off, but it does create the most beautiful shimmery glitter on the lid! I love the shades in this palette because they’re so versatile; they can be super light and feminine for a day makeup look, or built up a little more for an evening look. I really want to keep this palette for weekends and date nights because it’s just too beautiful (and expensive) to use every day! I’m looking to purchase the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Intense Amethyst to use for work and lazy days; I really like products that are super quick to use and don’t take any effort to blend in; these are perfect when you’re in a rush!

Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Cali Rose
I bought this lipstick on National Lipstick Day on a whim, and I’m so sad I hadn’t found this formula earlier, it’s so beautiful! This lipstick is super pigmented, lasts for hours without a lip liner and feels moisturising on the lips, it’s pretty much all you can ask for from a lipstick. It doesn’t smudge when I kiss Matt which makes us both very happy! I chose this colour as I love a purple-ish pink-ish lip in the Autumn months, and as any regular readers know I am SO READY for Autumn. This is a great transitional colour through from the end of Summer, it’s already become a staple in my handbag and I’ve worn it so much the past few weeks!

Bobbi Brown Primer Plus Mattifier
I LOVE this primer. I’d go as far as saying it’s holy grail status for me already. I’d been using the Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot primer for so long that I thought all of the problems with makeup not lasting on my face were because of my skin. Nope. Turns out, my skin must have just gotten used to the primer (or stopped working well with it) and this primer has changed my life, seriously! It’s a pet hate when I look in the mirror at midday and my makeup is already breaking up or sliding off my face, it makes me feel so crap. This primer feels like butter on the skin; it melts right in and doesn’t ball up under foundation/concealer like some primers do. I use the teeniest amount each morning in my T Zone, then take whatever is left over the rest of my face.

Physician’s Formula The Healthy Lip Velvet Liquid Lipstick in All Natural Nude
I added this liquid lipstick to my basket last minute when re-purchasing my foundation and I’m SO glad I got this! I hadn’t read anything about this product – I just quickly looked up swatches – but it’s the most comfortable, non-drying liquid lipstick I’ve ever tried. I’m not the biggest fan of liquid lipsticks normally because I feel like they just don’t look good on me! I love the applicator; it has a hole in the middle which means the product never gets gloopy or applies too thickly. This liquid lipstick is comfortable on the lips and moisturising, I’ve worn it several times and it lasts for HOURS without smuding or disappearing. It’s also a steal at under £10.00, if you’re a liquid lipstick gal you need it in your life!

Buxom Mascara in Blackest Black
This mascara is a re-purchase and I’m very happy to have it back in my makeup bag. I first used this years ago, and although I think the formula may have changed it’s hands down one of the best mascaras I’ve ever used. It’s high end quality for mid range pricing, and the brush is incredible; it separates your lashes perfectly, whilst coating them with just the right amount of product. Like most mascaras I find this works at it’s best once it’s been opened for a week or two, but that’s just because I’m not a huge fan of ‘wet’ mascaras. I love how dark the colour is (SO many black mascaras have a grey undertone), and it lasts on my lashes all day without smudging or flaking so I don’t have any need for the waterproof formula. I always remove this with my cleansing balm, and it comes off super easy!

Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe got a little inspiration of things to pick up to change your makeup bag as we move into the Autumn. Have you tried any of the products mentioned in this post? Please let me know your thoughts, too! Is there anything on your beauty wishlist right now? What are your current favourite go-to makeup products?

Feelin’ It Friday

Happy, happy Friday my little love bugs! I’m writing to you this morning at 6.15am, from my snuggly bed… Matt is just getting ready to leave for work and our room is FREEZING! We sleep with the window open no matter the weather (literally even when it’s snowing) because we love the room to be cold when we’re super warm under our duvet and blankets. However it’s not as fun when I’m trying to type up a blog post and it feels like Alaska in here… Anyway, I’ve got lots to talk about, so let’s get into it!

What I’m obsessed with:
So, like I often do, I copied Shay. Again. I seriously love everything I try on her recommendation, so I’m happy to try out new products based just on her reviews! I’d been eyeing up the Dr Teal’s Pure Epsom Salt bubble bath for the longest time but it’s pretty pricey and I wasn’t sure if it would be worth it. A while back I read Amazon reviews, searched for blog posts talking about it and asked my family/friends if they’d tried it, and then kinda forgot all about it. Then, last week I was re-reading lots of Shay’s Fall blog posts from last year (Autumn. is. on. the. brain.) and I seen this mentioned a couple of times, which prompted me to purchase it. Guys, I’m so happy I did because it’s SO GOOD. I love it! I have arthritis which is much worse in my knees/hips, and I’ve heard lots of good things about this helping aches and pains. To be honest, hot baths in general help me so I’m really intrigued to see if this makes a big difference when it starts to get a little cooler over the next few weeks.

What I’m reading:
I’m currently reading The Postcard by Zoe Folbigg, which is the sequel to The Note (one of my favourite books). I always love a book series, and I can’t get enough of this one! Zoe is such an incredible writer; her books feel like you’re right in with the characters, like you know everyone personally. I have read about two thirds of the book so far, and I’m going to be so sad when I finish it, I love love love Maya (the main character) so much, and Nena (her best friend) melts my heart. I am just finishing up a post this week about all the ways I find time to read regularly, which is something I asked if you guys might be intersested in SO long ago. It’ll be up in a few weeks and if you’re struggling with finding the time to read I really hope it helps you!

What I’m watching:
Matt and I started watching The Office! Well, we actually tried Parks and Rec but we just couldn’t get into it, we might go back to it in after The Office. We’re so late to the party, but we needed a funny, easy-to-watch show as we’ve now finished up to season five of Brooklyn 99. I’m still crying about it and I can’t wait for season six to be on Netflix! So far we are loving The Office, it’s so funny and the dry humour is exactly our style, we actually really look forward to watching a few more episodes every night. Baby John Krasinski melts my heart (I’m kinda obsessed with him and Emily Blunt, literally the best celeb couple!)

What I’m buying:
Okay so I kinda teased this last week, but I’m already looking for what I need to add to my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. I’m missing a few very obvious essentials in my wardrobes which was highlighted when I cleared them all out a few weeks ago, so I already have a pretty good list. One of the things on there is a good sweater/fleece that I can wear with jeans or leggings for just any casual weekend, and I found THIS baby. I’m not sure on the colour way I’m going to buy yet, but I already know how much I’ll love it and how much I’ll wear it. Patagonia have brilliant ethics which I fully support, and even though it’s extortionately expensive I’m hoping praying for a 20% discount to be available very soon! I also really wanted a mid-length cosy cardigan that will see me through the last of the Summer and into the Autumn, so I ordered this one, it’s a steal and it looks perfect, I’m excited for it to arrive! I can’t wait to start buying a few staple jumpers, long sleeved tees and I really need some black leather boots sooner rather than later because we have been getting SO much rain!

What I’m happy about:
Last week I had to send my iPad away to be fixed, because the battery ‘swelled’. Like, who knew that was even a thing?! It turns out they couldn’t actually fix the problem so instead they replaced my iPad with a pretty little new one! I was super nervous sending it away to be fixed because I really wanted it back before bank holiday weekend, but it literally took TWO days from when they received it to my new one arriving… Apple’s customer service is SO GOOD. I had just started using my iPad way more because I forgot how easy it is to carry it with me most days, and I can use it to blog on the go! I ordered this cute new case in anticipation of my new one arriving and I’m really happy with it!

What I’m thinking about:
Next week I’m getting my hair done again, and I’m completely undecided on what to do! I’m so torn between going for a darker, brunette balayage or going a little bit lighter with my current blondey balayage. I really just want a low maintenance, easy-to-manage colour as I feel like I get my hair dyed all the time which is pretty costly, not to mention so damaging! I’ve finally figured out how to curl my hair (well, kinda, I’m so bad at doing anything with my hair haha) but I LOVE how curls look in darker hair. I’m confused on what to do; should I go darker for Autumn or go a shade or two lighter? Someone please help me! I’d love for my hair to grow longer and I’m pretty sure the more I bleach it the less it’s likely to grow out.

What I’m working on:
I’ve planned so much new content for my blog, I feel like I’m constantly coming up with new ideas and trying to fit them into my posting schedule. Writing the posts is the easy part; I literally sit down at my laptop and the words just come out (for the most part, anyway) but having time to take photos isn’t always easy, and I hate to feel rushed or put up sub-standard photos. This weekend, Matt and I are taking photos for my first morning routine post, I really hope it all comes together how I picture it in my head, I’m nervous and excited about it!

What I’m up to this weekend:
Tonight we’re cooking, relaxing and snuggling in to watch Stacey Dooley’s new documentary. #Stace4evs. Matt is at work tomorrow on an early shift, so I’m taking the morning to run errands, grocery shop for the week ahead, maybe pop to Homesense and work a little a lot on my blog. He’ll be home around 3.30pm, so we’re spending our evening watching football, grabbing a Chinese takeaway and having the most chilled night, which is our favourite way to spend a Saturday! On Sunday we’re having a chilled morning (and also taking photos as I mentioned above), then heading for date day in town. I’m taking Matt for a breakfast date, we’re visiting the Quayside Market, getting donuts from The Best Place In The North East, browsing the shops and just having a fun little day together, before coming home to probably watch more football. ‘Tis the season! We’re spending our evening snuggled up on the couch with a good dinner, watching a movie before a hectic week.

Our favourite meals from the week:
I decided to start a new segment in my #feelinitfriday posts! I am asked SO often – especially in response to my almost nightly Instagram stories – to share recipe ideas on the blog, and I really want to do it; I’m just not great at taking photos of food. It’s hard because we obviously want to eat when our food is hot, but cooled down food photographs way better (weird, I know). Also, presentation is not our strong point; we literally throw it all together and all we care about is eating it! I’m not sharing recipes (unless I’ve followed someone else’s in which case I’ll link them) but maybe it will give you a little inspiration of things to make for the upcoming week. As I talked about in last week’s post, I was pumped to make this BLT pasta, and it turned out so. dang. good. I tweaked the recipe a little (we didn’t use stock) and we already know it’s going to be something we make all the time; it’s delicious, so easy and pretty healthy, what’s not to love? Another night we made pizza pasta bake which was also very good. Last night I made the easiest, most simple chicken fajita recipe for Matt coming home from work and we loved it. You literally throw it all in the oven for forty minutes on a baking tray, add rice, guac, salsa, sour cream etc and throw it all into a wrap. We had them with garlic potatoes, and we’re so happy the peri peri rice we LOVE is back in stores!

…and that wraps up today’s post, thank you so much for reading! These posts always get the most views on the day they go live, and I’m pretty sure it’s because we’re all nosy and love to know the behind-the-scenes of other people’s lives… just me? 🙂 I’m not sure if you’ll be getting a #feelinitfriday from me next week as Matt and I are going on a trip across the bank holiday weekend (I’m SO excited), we’ll just have to see how busy life is next week! Have the most wonderful weekend!

Nine Things You Must Do Before Summer Ends

Hi, loves! If you’re anything like me, you probably have grand plans every season to do X, Y and Z, and before you know it the season has disappeared in front of you and you’re left wondering how the heck time went so fast! Matt and I make seasonal bucket lists that I started sharing on the blog this year – you can catch our Summer bucket list here – and we’ve found that writing activities and date ideas down meant we ticked off most of our things, and always had something planned to look forward to. When Summer consists of work, work and more work, it’s so important to schedule FUN in too!

It’s no surprise to any regular readers that I’m just not a big fan of Summer. This year I was determined not to wish it away like I usually do, and actually embrace it. I’ve done a pretty good job of trying to live in the moment and I really have had such a fun Summer! I’m very excited for the things Matt and I have planned fort the rest of the month, but I’m even more excited that we’re almost in Autumn. *watches Hocus Pocus on repeat, much to Matt’s annoyance* Today I’m sharing with you some of our favourite things to do each Summer, and also some of the things we want to do this year before Autumn rolls around. It’s essentially your reminder to enjoy the rest of Summer!

Catch a sunset at the beach
The beach is our favourite place to watch sunsets, although I’m not sure any will come close to the sunsets we seen each night in Croatia. Each one was more beautiful than the last, they made us so happy! We love watching the sunset, it’s one of my very favourite things to do with Matt, and although it’s not quite the Adriatic coast, we live by some very beautiful beaches. It’s less than a ten minute drive for us to be at the beach, and although it’s usually somewhere we go for breakfast date we are trying to get there to catch a sunset more often!

Eat your favourite ice cream with your favourite person
Ice cream is our favourite treat! Whether you’re eating Halo Top on the couch whilst watching a movie, making late night McFlurry runs in your pj’s or sitting in the sun with the best ice cream in the North East, it’s SO fun to enjoy an ice cream date. We obviously eat ice cream all year round, but it’s a little more justifiable in the Summer, right?

Play tourist in your own city
One of our go-to date days is always to explore Newcastle; there’s so much to see and do, and we are those people that think there’s nowhere better than their hometown. Because there isn’t. We love walking along the Quayside, shopping from Eldon Square to Monument and having drinks on Grey’s Street, wherever you end up it’s always lively and we have the best time. Look up restaurants nearby that you’ve never been to, explore the back streets you’ve never been to and really embrace how beautiful your city is!

Go fruit picking at a local farm
This was such a random thing I wanted to do, but we both had so much fun! We spent an hour at Brockbushes Farm a few weekends ago picking strawberries and raspberries; it was such a hot, sunny day so we loved being outside, and bonus: we got a ton of fresh fruit! We gave some to our parents, some to my grandma and I ate A LOT, they were so sweet and juicy and the perfect pairing with breakfast. (Matt doesn’t like berries at all, so he literally did this for me!)

Star gaze late at night
Snapple fact: I’m obsessed with the stars and moon. I’m fascinated by space in general, and I love love love clear Summer nights when as far as the eye can see you’re under a blanket of stars. Of course, everyone knows the best place to see the stars is out in the countryside or at the beach as there’s no street lights around. We really need to go for a late night beach drive before Summer ends! If you can’t make it to the coast or country to watch, lay out in your back garden; grab a cosy blanket (or five) and your favourite snacks and try to spot those shooting stars! If you look long enough, you’ll see lots!

Host a BBQ
I’m pretty sure it’s an unwritten law in England that if it’s over 12 degrees at least six people per street need to light up their BBQ. We love cooking on the stove, but BBQ food is some of the very best! Burgers, sausages, kebabs, grilled peppers, potato salad, corn on the cob, chips and dip, fresh fruit, s’mores… the list goes on and it makes me hungry. Spending time with your loved ones is another great thing about BBQ’s – they’re a great way to catch up with friends or family! One thing I’m super excited about is when Matt and I get our own house in the next year or so we’ll be able to host our own BBQ’s in our own back garden! Yay!

Go on a road trip
We love road trips. Packing our suitcases, jumping in the car and heading South is just one of our favourite things to do. (We’re yet to road trip to Scotland, we always get the train when we venture North!) In a few weeks we’re heading to Stamford for a long weekend and I’m SO excited – like, ‘already planning outfits’ excited. I wrote a post including all of our road trip essentials here, and if you can squeeze a road trip in with your boyfriend/girlfriend/parents/best friend(s) before Summer ends, you’ll not regret it! Our motto: the longer the road trip, the more snacks you can eat. Okay, we don’t have a motto, but if we did it would be that. Probably.

Snuggle up on a chilly/rainy evening to enjoy a movie night
It is Summer in England, after all. Rainy evenings in the Summer are the best; it’s warm enough that the rain has that fresh smell, it’s super relaxing when you’re at home and it’s the perfect excuse to be lazy and watch a movie. There are SO MANY movies on Netflix, Sky and Amazon Prime; we’re always spoilt for choice and I swear we spend longer choosing a movie than we do actually watching it. Grab a bowl of popcorn (this flavour is our favourite) and your favourite pop, dim the lights and get cosy under lots of blankets!

Read a great book
What could be better than relaxing in the sun with a good book and not a worry in the world? I love that reading transports you to another place, to the point you’re able to completely forget what’s going on around you. I read a lot all year round, but there is something extra special about laying out, enjoying the warm weather. If only we had a pool to jump in to after…

Thank you so much for reading, guys! Have you done any of the things I mentioned so far this Summer? What are you hoping to squeeze in before Summer ends?

Self Care Practices To Incorporate Into Your Everyday Life

Hey, loves! As I mentioned in Friday’s post, I’ve really had one of those weeks. I’ve felt a bit crap, and as a result I’ve been thinking a lot about the ways I try to carve out a little self care time each day, and focus on the things that keep me feeling good even on those terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days. Name that movie. As I mentioned in a recent post I’ve made August an unofficial self-care month for me, and I’d love for you to join in too! Let’s get used to taking a little extra time for ourselves, no matter how busy we are. Today I’m sharing with you the things I try to do most days (or at least several times per week) to practice self care.

Practice yoga (or at least stretch)
It’s not realistic to assume we all have a spare hour or even half an hour each day to prioritise yoga, or whichever exercise you prefer. However, ten minutes is something we should all able to achieve – whether it means turning the TV off ten minutes before bed or getting up ten minutes earlier – it feels so good to stretch out your body. My favourite morning stretch routine for when I don’t have much time is this practice from Yoga With Adrienne, it always makes me feel refreshed and ready to start the day.

Eat food that’s good for you
When you’re eating healthy food your body feels refreshed, and so does your mind. Matt and I eat healthy veggie filled dinners most nights, and we try to eat healthy when possible. We definitely don’t restrict ourselves; if we want to eat something we’ll definitely enjoy it, it’s just about creating a balance. Getting our five a day is so important, and although there’s way less emphasis on it in the media now, I think we could all use a reminder!

Enjoy at least ten minutes of peace and quiet each day
Having a little time alone just to be is good for the soul. I’m an introvert, and until Matt and I got together two years ago, I’d have opted to spend time alone than with others any day of the week. Now, of course I’d rather spend every possible second with Matt, but it’s still important to appreciate time alone too. Whether it’s relaxing in a hot bath during the evening or whilst I’m doing my makeup before work, I just enjoy being with only my thoughts for a little while.

Keep the space around you clean, tidy and clutter-free
I am the kind of person that needs the space around me to be clean and tidy anyway, but it truly makes you feel so much more calm and relaxed when everything is in order and put away in it’s place. I like to de-clutter Matt and I’s space pretty often, and it’s freeing to not hold on to rubbish you don’t need! Our bedroom is always smelling fresh and looking tidy, and coming home each night to our own little sanctuary is so calming and refreshing. I’m also the same with my car, I can’t bare it being dirty or cluttered inside, I just very rarely clean the outside.

Treat yourself to regular pamper sessions
Whether it’s getting your gels refreshed or visiting your favourite salon for a fresh colour and cut, set aside time (and money) to enjoy it. I love days where I’m getting my hair or nails done SO much, it just makes me feel happier. Of course you don’t have to go to salons to treat yourself, because at-home spa and pamper evenings can be just as wonderful. Indulge in a bubble bath and throw a face mask on, and never let yourself feel guilty for doing so. It’s important to unwind and relax, and it’s very true that when you look good, you feel good on the inside too. Matt and I love a pamper night!

Make gratitude lists
Feeling grateful is one thing, but writing down what you’re grateful for changes your perspective on everything. It’s so easy to get bogged down with mundane life stuff, but just acknowledging the good things in your life can make you see everything so differently. I’ve wrote three posts this year, logging things I’m grateful for each day – you can catch up here, here and here – and I couldn’t recommend that enough. Whether you’re a blogger looking for a content idea or you just want to list what you’re grateful for privately, it’s amazing to see your blessings right in front of you. I keep a list in the Notes app in my phone, and man does it help me to keep positive.

Live in the moment
I admit that I am SO bad for not enjoying the day/hour/second right there and then, because I’m thinking about what’s coming up. Whether I’m stressing about something happening or I’m super excited for something fun, I find I’m always counting down to the Next Thing. I’m actively trying to enjoy where I’m at in the moment, and it’s making life so much more fun! …but it’s okay to have things to look forward to. Matt and I always have a trip planned, whether it’s a holiday or a weekend getaway, because we love travelling SO much and that’s where we want to put our energy. We just love getting away and exploring somewhere new! Similarly, date nights keep us sane and get us through long work weeks, and we always plan those in advance. Get plans in your diary to catch up with your friends too, they may need it more than you do!

Be active, and enjoy nature while you’re at it
Matt and I are SO LUCKY to live where we do; there’s beautiful beaches, rolling countryside and our favourite city, Newcastle upon Tyne, all just twenty minutes drive from us. We are always trying to get outside more and enjoy whatever is around us, and we’re also very lucky that we experience all four seasons here too! Well, Summer is questionable LOL.

Unwind in a way that makes you happy
Getting cosy under a fluffy blanket with our favourite candles flickering, snuggling up with Matt to watch Netflix is without a doubt my favourite pastime. We do this in some aspect every evening, even if it’s only to watch one quick episode of our favourite show (Brooklyn 99 is life, you guys!) and it feels so good to relax at home. Being curled up with Matt makes me so happy, and it’s something I look forward to from the minute we get out of bed each morning! I also love to blog, binge watch reality shows (The *original* Hills and KUTWK are always my go-to shows), online shop/browse, cook, catch up on my YouTube subscriptions, read books, take bubble baths… whatever it is for you; do more of it.

Don’t beat yourself up
The best self care tip of all is to not be too hard on yourself, because everyone is doing the best they can. You don’t need to compare yourself to others, or what you think you should have/want in life. Being happy within yourself is so important, and nurturing your close relationships is super important too. Matt and I are very good at giving each other pep talks and cheering each other up if we ever have a bad day, and that support network is so vital!

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you found this post helpful, and maybe feel inspired to take a little more time for yourself. How do you take time for self care each day? What’s one thing that always makes you feel good? Except for cuddling with Matt, one other thing specifically comes to mind for me. Blogging. It always makes me feel good and is there for me like a safety net; I love to write SO MUCH, and I had no idea how much joy blogging would bring to my life! Matt encouraged me to start and has (literally) held my hand every step of the way so far; I’m so grateful for him and that he pushed me to do it; it’s a dream come true to run my own blog. Thank you so much to everyone who takes time to read, comment, like, share etc – it means the world to me, and I really feel so lucky to have such a great bunch of people around me.

Feelin’ It Friday

Happy Friday, loves! Can you believe we’re heading into the second week of August? Where the heck is this year going? Matt left for work at 6.30am (boo) so I’m finishing up writing and editing this post laying in bed with a cup of Swiss Miss, candle burning, listening to the pouring rain and Friends playing in the background… what a relaxing way to start a Friday 🙂

What I’m loving:
This is a little sneak peek as in a week or two I have a post going up featuring several new beauty bits I’ve picked up recently, but I just HAVE to share this with you now! I ordered the Pillowtalk palette from Charlotte Tilbury when it finally came back in stock and I’ve never loved an eyeshadow palette so much, it’s a dream! The packaging is beautiful, just like everything from Charlotte Tilbury, and the colours are amazing – it’s literally my perfect palette. The shades are light and subtle but with lots of colour pay off, and you can create easy day or night looks. Now I have the palette, lipstick and lip liner from the Pillowtalk collection, I’m just missing the blush!

Where I’ve been:
I’m sorry there was no new post on Wednesday, I took the week off blogging because I was just feeling a little overwhelmed and anxious. I was pretty annoyed at myself because I had a post ready to go, I just needed to do a final edit and take photos but I didn’t feel up to it. I’ve been a little off the past couple of weeks and it unfortunately caught up with me. I took the week to spend more time with Matt, do more yoga, focus on work, plan new content and just relax, which made me feel so much better! I really hate taking time off from blogging because I feel like I’m letting not just myself down but also my readers, but now I’m back and so excited for upcoming content 🙂

What I’m wearing:
I LOVE midi skirts and I can’t get enough! I wore this leopard print wrap midi on Saturday night when we went out for my brother’s birthday (you can just see it in my feature photo) and I wore this one at the weekend with a t-shirt. I love to wear midi skirts dressed up with a cami and heels or dressed down with a t-shirt and trainers, and I’m definitely going to be wearing them with thin knits or jumpers and boots when Autumn rolls around! They’re really so versatile and I’m always looking for more to add to my collection, so please link me any that you love right now?

What I’ve been up to this week:
I’ve had a really good week despite feeling pretty rubbish at the beginning. I wrote a little for my blog on Wednesday and Thursday evening before Matt got home from work, and enjoyed it so much. Matt took me for date night at Banyan in Newcastle on Tuesday night; it’s restaurant week and we hadn’t planned anything because I wasn’t feeling like myself, but he surprised me and booked it. He’s seriously the best, I love him so much! Look how cute he is in that photo above!! We’ve also watched tons of TV because our new TV is the best thing ever. We were snuggled in bed the other night watching a Stacey Dooley documentary (I just love her) and I literally said to Matt “don’t you think having a TV again has made our lives so much better?!” hahahaha.

What I’m up to this weekend:
We’re having a nice relaxing weekend and I couldn’t be more excited to chill the heck out. Tonight I’m making a fun dinner – more on that below! – and we’re snuggling in bed watching TV all night long. I’m obsessed guys. Matt is working an early shift tomorrow so we’ll be up at 6am (well, he will be. I get to stay cosy in bed)! While he’s at work I’m hoping to catch up on my YouTube subscription box and get lots of work done on the blog. We really want to spend our afternoon at the beach but we’re on weather warning for torrential rain so we may need to take a rain check on that one. Rain check. Get it? We’re spending our evening with Matt’s parents, I love these kind of chilled weekends so much! On Sunday we’re up early to squeeze in a breakfast date as our plans to go for breakfast last week spectacularly failed. Sunday is also our first game of the season (we’re big NUFC fans, despite all of the problems going on at the club right now) so Matt is heading into town to watch the match with his friends, then I’m picking him up after. I’m hoping to spend the few hours he’s out finishing up blog stuff for the week, clearing out my beauty drawers (my wardrobes look SO GOOD) and baking banana bread for us to enjoy that evening!

What I’m planning:
Our trip at the end of the month! I am so excited to get away for a few days to explore Stamford, spend time with Matt’s family and just relax. Matt and I love exploring new places and finding hidden gems but if you have any recommendations of places we must visit or the best shops/restaurants please let me know! I’m going to be writing a packing post for our weekend away, as I haven’t done one of those for so long and I know those posts are loved. (That’s not me being big headed, those are some of the posts that are searched for and re-read the most… I get to see all the stats!) Those are some of my favourite posts from other bloggers too, and I really enjoy writing them so I’m really excited.

What I’m obsessed with:
Sheet masks, specifically these ones from The Body Shop! The seaweed mask is my go-to, and Matt really enjoys the Aloe option. I really want to do a whole post about how good their face mask range is and my top picks, as I feel like I always talk about them but never in much detail. I was feeling super crappy on Monday evening so Matt and I had a mini pamper night, and it made me feel SO much better! I’ve just picked up some of their Vitamin C masks and I’m so excited to use them more before giving my verdict. I really want to make a post soon about a few Vitamin C products I’ve introduced into my skincare routine that are making my skin look the best it has in a LONG time!

What I’m working out to:
Confession time: I’ve totally failed with this week’s Couch To 5k runs, I’ve only done one! But again, I was having one of those weeks so I’m not beating myself up about it because honestly, who cares? I have however done A LOT of yoga – I’ve practiced at least once per day over the past week and it’s felt SO good. I find it totally clears my mind, allows me to focus on the ‘right now’ and leaves me feeling so relaxed and content. When I feel particularly anxious I really enjoy doing yoga a little bit more because it helps so much!

What I’m excited about:
Tonight’s dinner receipe. I swear I am 25 going on 85. Matt has a little work to do so I said I’d make dinner for us, and I’m finally making this BLT pasta! Shay made it on The Today Show a while back and when I watched that I knew I wanted to make it too, then literally forgot. all. about. it. Does that happen to anyone else? We love to make new recipes but we also love our tried and tested favourites… it’s a hard balance! I’m so excited to see how it tastes, I’m also pairing it with garlic bread and I’m sure it’s going to be AMAZING!

Thank you so much for reading, I hope you had a wonderful week and have an even better weekend with your loved ones. What have you been up to this past week? I’m so excited to relax a lot with Matt, do a little more decluttering and write more blog posts! I’ve gone a little crazy and planned my content until mid-September, I really am so excited to share so many fun things with you. Also, I SO BADLY wanted to share with you a Patagonia sweater I can barely wait to buy for the Autumn and Winter months, but I feel like I can’t stop talking about Autumn and it’s a little too early… I might share it with you next week, I am SO excited to get it!
