Four Lipsticks For Fall

Happy Wednesday, loves! If you’ve been around for a while you’ll know by now that lipstick is hands down my favourite beauty product. Each time I apply my lipstick I feel a little more confident, and just a little more like me. I’ve always thought that when I’m getting ready – whether it’s for date night, work or just to run errands – until I’ve spritzed my perfume and applied my lipstick I don’t feel ready to take on the day. I talked about how desperately I want to try (and love) red lipstick in this post, but today I’m sharing with you four of my current favourites for this season, and there’s something for everyone.

Clinique Bare Pop
This is my favourite lipstick of the moment, I literally cannot stop wearing it! Matt and I were shopping a few weeks ago and I popped into Boots to browse the lipsticks; I had lots of points to spend and just wanted to treat myself. I spotted this shade from afar and was immediately drawn to it; Bare Pop is the most gorgeous warm pink, and it’s only a few shades darker than my natural lip colour making it the perfect ‘your lips but better’ shade. I love the formula; it lasts really well without lip liner, and Matt compliments me on it all the time! It’s not crazy pigmented but it’s great for work and running errands as it’s so wearable, and it doesn’t feel drying on the lips which is a huge bonus, especially as we move in to the colder months of the year. I already have my eye on a few shades from their new Pop Lipsticks release; Shay raved about Cute Pop recently so you know it’s on my radar, because if Shay recommends, I buy!

NARS Bound
I wore this lipstick for pretty much every date night Matt and I had last Fall and Winter, and I was so excited to pull it back out now that we’re back in October. I can’t quite describe the texture of this; it applies like a lip gloss but the finish is more like that of a liquid lipstick, without being matte. Although it is described as a ‘soft rose pink’ on the website I feel like the shade deepens a little on application to a perfect mauve-toned dark pink on my fair complexion. This baby stays on through drinking and eating – which really does make it perfect for date night with your love because it lasts through those kisses too! – and it is just so stinking pretty. It’s dark without being too daring, and I am always telling people they need this lip product in their life.

MAC Jubilee
My favourite lipstick finish ever is the Lustre from MAC (it’s where my love of Syrup was born, which is my most worn lipstick for almost six years now, I re-purchase it over and over and over!) so when I seen this beautiful nude shade was part of the Lustre collection, I knew I’d love it. Another recent addition to my makeup collection, I’ve worn this so much the past few weeks. Pretty much each day I haven’t been wearing Bare Pop, I’ve been wearing this. This lipstick is a peach toned neutral, like a ‘pumpkin spice for your lips’ vibe (how on brand is that with the season?!) and it’s the most perfect ‘light’ nude shade I’ve ever found. This is a perfect day-to-night shade as I think with a slightly smokey eye it’s perfect for dinner and drinks right after the office.

Bobbi Brown Cali Rose
So this lipstick is a little ‘out there’ compared to the other three as it’s way more bright and colorful, but that’s why I love it so much! It’s the best lipstick to wear on those days you feel like you need a little ‘pick me up’ from boring day-to-day life, and I just think it’s the prettiest berry shade. I love to wear this when my makeup is super minimal for an extra little pop of colour, and it’s one that will transition so perfectly into the holiday season. It applies evenly although you need to make sure your lips are moisturised and exfoliated (I use Lush’s pumpkin spice lip scrub every morning and evening to keep my lips super soft!) otherwise you will definitely see different tones of the colour on your lips. I’d love to find a lip liner to match this but I haven’t yet – I thought MAC Soar was going to work perfectly but it’s a teeny bit too dark – if anyone has any ideas please let me know!

Thank you so much for reading; I hope you found a little inspiration for a new lipstick to pick up this Fall if you’re in the market for one. Have you already got any of these lipsticks? Do you give them the love they deserve demand?! What is your favourite lipstick(s) for Fall? I swear nude, mauve and berry tones are just perfect for all skin tones and all seasons, you really can’t go wrong! I still haven’t purchased a red lipstick yet, please let me know if you have any specific ones you’d recommend!

Feelin’ It Friday

Hi my little lovebugs! Happy FRIDAY! I’m so pumped that it’s October on Tuesday, even if I can’t quite believe it. This year has gone so. freaking. fast. (like, too fast. I feel like I’ve accomplished nothing but I’m not dwelling on it! I just want to enjoy the last few months of 2019 and start fresh in January). October, November and December are my favourite months of the year; it’s Autumn, the build up to Christmas begins, our Sky planner is filled with great TV shows, Matt and I are eating all of the fun foods and the activities this time of year are our favourite! We have so many fun plans for Autumn which I shared with you in my bucket list this past Sunday, I just can’t wait to get stuck in!

What I’m loving:
I have been enjoying so many Lush baths! I posted a little haul a few weeks ago (you can catch that post here if you missed it) and I’ve been so enjoying trying out new products and re-discovering old favourites! Lord Of Misrule will always be my favourite Halloween bath bomb, it’s just so perfect to me. I’m also really enjoying the Pumpkin Spice lip scrub each evening. Have you guys picked anything up from the Halloween range yet?! The Christmas range just came out this week – literally three months before Christmas Day – and I’m already swooning over it all. But I want to enjoy the Halloween collections for a little while so I’ll not be buying anything until at least the end of October. Famous last words.

What I’m thinking about:
I truly cannot believe the response I got to Wednesday’s post. I had butterflies I was so nervous about uploading it, but after getting Matt and my mum to proof-read it (several times) I felt a tiny bit better. I wrote the post because I was truly so inspired by the Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out documentary, and also because I thought sharing my story might help others to feel better about their story too. I received so many sweet messages and I just want to say thank you SO much to everyone that took the time to share their thoughts with me! Some of my oldest dearest friends even messaged saying they were moved by it and had no idea how I’d felt when I was younger or even now; opening up is so important and body struggles is one of those things so many of us (sadly) have experience with. You can read it here if you missed it, please message me if you have any questions or would like to share your story too!

What I’m happy about:
FALL!!! Guys, it’s officially the best season of the year and after banging on about it for maybe the past two months it’s finally here! It’s been dark, rainy and cold the past week here in the North East and I can’t lie, I’ve loved every second of it. Matt and I have spent our mornings before work snuggled, drinking cups of tea in bed, and we’ve been enjoying the beginning of Autumn recipes creeping back into our lives. Hearty soups, pasta bakes and pie & mash are on the menu this week, it’s just making me feel so happy! Tonight I’m making this recipe – how good does beer cheese chilli sound?! Matt’s at work until 9pm and I know he’ll be so happy to come home to this!

What I’m reading:
I’ve finally started reading Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams and so far I am LOVING it. I’ve only read around 40 pages as life has been busy this week, but I’m excited to read a little more tonight whilst having a nice hot bath! I don’t have too many books left in my ‘to read’ pile right now, please let me know if there’s any you’ve read recently that I should pick up? I’ve heard Cathy Glass books are very good, have any of you read her books? Which should I get first?!

What’s different on the blog:
I changed my upload times again! You may have noticed my Sunday posts are back to 12pm and Wednesday posts are now going up at 8am instead of 6pm. I changed the Wednesday post timings because I seriously get so many views early in the day when my Friday posts go live. Speaking of which… I’m sad to say that my Feelin’ It Friday’s are going to be posted once per month, on the last Friday of the month, for the foreseeable future. When I first started these posts back in June I wasn’t sure how it would work; I thought it would be maybe one a month (if that) if people enjoyed them but they became a weekly thing. I am just feeling a little bit anxious and stressed out right now, and I really don’t want to put up sub-standard posts. Instead I’m putting more of my energy into my Sunday and Wednesday posts, and really trying to be a little more creative in those. I hope you guys understand!

What I’m watching:
Strictly Come Dancing! I’m SO HAPPY it’s back, and I really love so many of the contestants this year. I’m rooting for Chris (obviously), Saffron, Dev, Catherine and Kelvin. So basically half of the celebs, hahaha. I really hope they all do well, and I know we’re only one episode in but it seems like there’s so many good dancers in this year! I didn’t get to watch on Saturday night as Matt and I were out for dinner with his family (spoiler: a Weekend In My Life from this past weekend will be up on Sunday!) but I loved catching up on Sunday evening. Matt and I are going out for dinner with my family this Saturday for my dads birthday – we’re so excited! – but we’ll definitely catch up when we get home. My prediction right now is that Kelvin will win, but I’m still rooting for Chris the most! We’ve also been watching Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over (if you’re new here, hi. I’m obsessed with Stacey Dooley 🙂 also, welcome!) and it is SO interesting. The people she’s been meeting are all a little crazy in their own way and it’s just very good TV. I really recommend you catch up if you haven’t already watched! I also wish Stacey would come sleep at our house, I’d be in my literal element.

What I’m burning:
I’ve officially broken out all of my favourite Autumn candles! Matt and I LOVE the cosy pumpkin scents, the comforting apple baking scents and the fresh leaves-just-fallen-on-the-ground-after-a-heavy-rainfall scents. I know, I’m so good at describing scents, LOL. I really think Autumnal candles are the best to burn when we’re snuggled in for the evening watching Netflix and eating dinner. If someone asked you to describe exactly what Autumn smells like… this candle is it.

What I’m baking:
Guys. I don’t know what is wrong with me but all I can think about is baking some delicious treats! This is SO not like me because, Snapple fact: baking is not my strong point. I cannot bake to save my life. Seriously, I can cook actually really well *toots own horn* but baking? It’s just so. dang. hard. for me. Matt’s at work on Saturday until mid-afternoon so I’m going to bake brownies and maybe cookies too before he arrives home, and I also ordered some pumpkin pie spice and cans of pumpkin to be able to make these pumpkin chocolate chip muffins next weekend! Seriously, how good do they look?! Mix And Match Mama recipes never fail me, Shay always makes the most delicous food so I know they’ll be incredible. I hope by the time Matt comes home from work he’ll be met with a delicious home baked treat! Or, I’ll nip to Tesco and buy something. 🙂 it’s the thought that counts, right?!

What I really want (but am not buying):
I can’t stop thinking about this kinda ugly but still cute sweater!! Something you may not know about me is that I LOVE the movie E.T. I used to be seriously obsessed with it when I was a kid and watched it all. the. time. My mum also loves the movie, and the E.T. ride at Universal is our favourite! I think this sweater would be perfect for when Matt and I have cosy-at-home days this Fall/Winter, and I’d probably size up to a Medium for a super cosy fit. I really do need more comfy clothes; pj’s, sweats and loungewear is an area I’m really lacking in my wardrobe, especially after my last wardrobe declutter. Maybe I’ll treat myself in a few weeks if it’s still on my radar!

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post, I truly appreciate you reading SO much. What’s been going on in your life the past few weeks? Have you read or wrote any fun blog posts I should read? Please comment below with the links! Also, don’t forget to leave me all the book recommendations 🙂

Autumn Bucket List

Happy, happy Sunday loves! I can’t lie to you… I started planning for this blog post back in July because I’ve been so dang excited. Tomorrow is, in my opinion, one of the best days of the whole year. Beat only by Matt and I’s birthdays, our anniversary and of course Christmas. It’s the first day of Autumn! Matt and I have so many fun things planned and I can’t wait to share some of them with you. Matt is Jim. I am Dwight. #allthepumpkins

As any regular readers will know, Autumn is my jam. I live for crisp, Fall days, leaves turning read, Halloween, pumpkin spiced everything and all of the cosy vibes that the Autumn brings. Matt is a huge fan of Summer, so we really tried this year to pack in as many fun things as possible to make the most of it! I feel like I often wish away Summer and just don’t enjoy it, but the past two years we’ve made amazing memories and even though I was super excited for Autumn, I hadn’t wished away the time for it to be here (well, not too much).

– Make time for all of the breakfast dates
– Carve pumpkins
– Drink lots of bonfire spice hot chocolates from Costa
– Take a hike when the leaves are changing
– Attend a pumpkin FESTIVAL. I’m so dang excited for this!
– Celebrate our anniversary with a weekend getaway (we couldn’t go in September on our actual anniversary or October due to Matt’s work schedule so we’re hoping to go in November!)
– Go beer tasting at a local brewery
– Drink hot apple cider
– Bake pumpkin cookies/muffins/bread
– Wrap up for crisp morning beach walks
– Enjoy all of the cosy nights with pumpkin candles burning
– Visit Edinburgh & Glasgow
– Spend Sunday afternoons out for dinner in cute, cozy pubs
– Have a bonfire
– Eat s’mores over the bonfire
– Watch all of the Halloween movies (sorry, Matthew!)
– Watch the Harry Potter movies. Matt and I have been clearly living under a rock and have only seen the first few, but don’t really remember them. Prepping for our Florida trip next year, we’re watching all of the movies back to back this Autumn!
– Visit a haunted house/haunted maze
– Dress up for Halloween. Couples costume ideas appreciated?!
– Visit a pumpkin patch, we’ve found an amazing one in York and I can’t wait to see it!
– Spend a morning at a local farmer’s market
– Create my first Fall DIY (#fortheblog)
– Celebrate Bonfire Night
– Begin our Christmas shopping
– Experiment with more CrockPot recipes
– Build my Autumn wardrobe

This was so fun to write! I just love everything about Autumn, I’m sooo happy it’s here and I’m genuinely so excited for all of the things we’re hoping to squeeze in to the season! The build up to Christmas has officially started and the last three months of the year really are the best. What are you excited for this season? Do you have any fun plans? Is there anything going on in North East England we should make time for?

The Cleansers Worth Your Money

Hey, loves!

I’m very excited to be talking about my favourite part of my skincare routine: cleansing my face. I love nothing more than the feeling of coming home from work, taking off my makeup and having a bath, before spending the evening with Matthew, more than likely cooking and watching our shows. (We’re currently watching Our Planet and it’s heartbreaking and amazing at the same time, the walrus scene had me crying so hard!)

I find that taking my makeup off is the first step in unwinding from my day; whether I’ve been at work, out shopping or running errands with Matt, it literally feels amazing every time. I’ve always been loyal to specific cleansers – I used Clinique Take The Day off pretty much exclusively for two years, but then when I changed my mind and no longer wanted to use/buy makeup and skincare products that weren’t cruelty free, I had to start looking at other options.

I shared my cruelty free skincare routine with you last month, and those products are tried, tested and truly loved. I didn’t delve too much into the products I use alternatively, or what I favour when I do switch out products from time to time. I think my skin reacts best when I stay consistent with my day/night moisturisers, and I truly love what I use so I stay away from changing these up. Cleansers are a product I have a little more wiggle room with, and as they’re not staying on my skin for an extended period of time, they don’t seem to cause too much trouble if my skin doesn’t agree with the formulation. I could probably change up my toner reguarly too, but I honestly have no desire to as I love Pixi Glow Tonic more than life itself! All of the products mentioned in this post are cruelty free, so you can shop without guilt if you’re in the market for something new! So, you probably won’t be too surprised by any of my picks based on previous posts, but which products would I recommend?

Sukin Foaming Facial Cleanser
This is the cleanser that I reach for every morning and some nights, and as I mentioned in my skincare routine it smells very spa-like due to the natural ingredients. The cleanser foams up nicely when applied and never leaves my skin feeling dry or tight after; just a clean canvas to apply my makeup. It’s inexpensive, paraben free and formulated for use on all skin types. I’ve found that generally when a product states it’s suitable for ‘all skin types’ it doesn’t work so well on sensitive skin (my skin is beyond sensitive) but this is fantastic. The cleanser is formulated with witch hazel, which has worked really well to lessen my acne scars, and I’m pretty sure is solely down to this product (and my beloved night cream). On the occasions I use this cleanser in the evening I always take my makeup off prior with micellar water or an alternative cleanser, this is just the next step in my routine. Matt sometimes uses this when he’s having a ‘bad skin day’ – he’s crazy, his skin is perfect – and so does my brother. I picked this up on a whim one day in Boots back in October last year, and I’m so glad I did. I just can’t wait to try more from the brand!
RRP: £5.96

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser
With my love of Pixi Glow Tonic being strong and unconditional, it’s safe to say I had bloody high hopes for this cleanser, and *spoiler* it didn’t disappoint. I got this as a gift from my parents for Christmas, and after having my eyes on the cleanser for a while I was so excited to try it. I started using it in January, and it was love at first use, although I shied away from using it too much as it’s a lot more expensive compared to the Sukin cleanser. Having used it more regularly over the past few months, I think the price is completely justified and it’s a product I look forward to using. Again, I don’t take my makeup off with this product although I’ve seen some people use it in that way and will probably give it a try now I’ve thought about it. The cleanser is thick and feels so luxurious on the skin, it’s like having a mini facial in our bathroom every night! The 5% gylcolic acid helps to keep my pores clear, and my skin always looks fresh and, literally glowing, after every use. Matt always compliments when my skin looks good, and I noticed every time he said it looked ‘really good’ was the nights I’d used this. It’s becoming an every day staple in my skincare routine, and I know I’ll re-purchase before it runs out.
RRP: £18.00

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser
Ah, my beloved milky jelly cleanser. A truly iconic cult product, and boy is it for good reason. I’ve re-purchased this cleanser several times, and when I’m having a moment with it, I really love it. I use this exclusively in the evenings, and although I don’t reach for it every night I do grab this a few times per week. I really like to use it after a night out or a long day where I’ve really stepped up my makeup game and am wearing more than usual. I love to take my makeup off with this as I feel like my skin always feels super soft afterwards, and sometimes I’ll use this to take off my makeup, then cleanse with the Pixi cleanser. It is worth noting that I have combination skin that leans more to the oily side, and my face never feels dry after using this although I’ve seen various reviews saying people find it makes them more dry. In my opinion this is a steal; it’s fuss-free and so simple to use, sometimes the simple stuff really is best.
RRP: £15.00

The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter
I’ve used this on and off for years now, I don’t think I could ever not have this in rotation in my routine. Right now I use most nights, as I’m trying to use micellar water less often, due to the waste produced by cotton pads. Again, like the Glossier cleanser I use this to take my makeup off, and I’ll usually follow it up with my Pixi cleanser too. All about that double cleanse life. This cleanser is different as it’s in a balm format; the product is solid and when worked into the skin turns into the most wonderful oily consistency. I find this works especially well on eye makeup, and I never actually need to double cleanse with this product even when I wear waterproof mascara. As this product is formulated with camomile, it has that perfect soothing, calming scent and is so welcome at the end of a long stressful day. There’s also an oil version of this product I reach for over and over again, it’s equally as good and another must-have in my collection. I just need to find a solution to the cotton pads problem – has anyone got any experience with re-usable alternatives? Please help a gal out!
RRP: £10.00

Thank you so much for reading! Is taking your makeup off the best part of your day too? Have you tried any of the cleansers mentioned in this post? What are your go-to cleansers? Let me know in the comments!

How To Become A Morning Person This Spring

Hi, loves!

I’ve always loved the idea of being a morning person. A sense of getting up when the birds begin chirping, being up and about roaming around before others have even opened their eyes, and just getting started on the day from the crack of dawn. My boyfriend thrives in the mornings, and I had just resided to it not being for me. He’s always full of the joys of Spring (appropriate, right?) the second his eyes open, and despises the fact I snooze our alarm at least twice every morning. Well, I used to!

Over the past few months I’ve been working so hard to become a morning person, to enjoy early mornings and to look forward to them, instead of dreading them. There’s a few things that have worked wonders to change my mindset, and I’m now officially one of those people. It’s actually pretty great, and I can’t stop banging on about it to my friends. Also, it means you get to eat more delicious food. Breakfast really IS the best meal of the day!

Prepare your clothes/bag/food etc the night before. I used to do this way back when I was in school, and I felt great pleasure in having my uniform hanging on the front of my wardrobe door, my Jane Norman bag filled to the brim with crap I didn’t need (textbooks? what are those?) and my makeup set out and ready to go. When I went to college, I started to go for the just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-possibly-still-hungover look more often than not, and my eagerness to be prepared for the day ahead went down the drain. Then, I started the world of work, and I just never got into a rhythm that worked for me. Fast forward to 2019: after almost seven years in the working world, I’ve got it down. My work bag is always ready to go, Matt and I’s clothes are ironed and hanging up on our wardrobe door before our heads hit our pillows, and our lunches are prepared for the next day. It’s one less thing to think about in the morning, and sometimes I still even place my makeup products on my dressing table, ready to use when I’m bleary eyed and fighting the urge to jump back into bed for another cuddle!

Go to bed a reasonable time. It’s probably the most obvious thing to point out, but it’s for good reason. Waking up early and feeling ready to take on the day, are never going to go hand-in-hand if you’re falling asleep mid-way through a movie you decided you just had to watch at 11pm. Matt and I are such homebodies – we love our cosy evening routine so much – and quite honestly we’re very rarely awake at 11pm! That is the latest of nights for us, specifically reserved for weekends when Matt’s off work. In our twenties and living the high life. We’re all different, but scientists believe the optimum number of hours we should sleep lands between the six to eight hour mark, and I have to say for us, I agree. If we get less than seven hours we’re a little cranky, and counting down to having an early night from the second our alarm goes off. I think the best way to tweak this is to try to go to bed 10 – 20 minutes earlier each day, gradually working up to an hour or hour and a half earlier, and seeing how you feel getting up at the same time or earlier in the mornings.

Stop pressing snooze. Seriously. I admit it: I’m a fan of the snooze button. I used to religiously set alarms for an hour (or sometimes two) before we were going to get up just so I could enjoy snuggling back in and falling asleep again. I know. Matt hated it but never complained, bless him! You’ll be glad to know I’ve finally relaxed on the super early alarms. I still set our alarm a tad earlier than we need to get up to get ready for the day ahead, but generally by a much more reasonable 10 to 15 minutes. This gives us a little time to wake up, snuggle in with each other and talk about our sleep and the day ahead. *Cue lots of me telling Matt he said something super cute but he was fast asleep and has no recollection. And I’m probably complaining about him stealing all the covers. He does it every night!* In hindsight, I never actually felt better from snoozing our alarm either, if anything it made me more tired and grumpy, because I would fall back asleep then jump awake, feeling more startled every time.

Create a routine. I love routines. Love, love, love them. That will be no surprise to any regular readers, I think they just make life so much more simple! Due to Matt’s varying shifts throughout the week, our mornings are a little different each day, but that actually makes things a little easier for me, I think. Some days we’re up at 6am, and he’s out of the house around half an hour later. On those mornings I love to write and edit upcoming blog posts and/or squeeze in a thirty minute yoga session before I have to get ready for work. The days we get to snooze a little longer are when I’m out of the house first (much later at around 8.30am), and they’re generally reserved for little lie ins and cups of tea in bed. Both glorious in their own way! Of course, weekends are a whole different ball game (if Matt is off work, that is) – it’s our time to sleep a little longer and just move at a slower pace. Also, I find my days start so much better if I don’t start to browse social media the second I turn off the alarm. I’m obviously not perfect and I do usually catch up on my chosen platform (Instagram, ALWAYS!) before I leave the house, but it’s not the first thing I do when I wake up anymore. Matt and I try so hard to not look at our phones whilst we’re lying in bed in the morning, otherwise it makes us want to stay there for at least another twenty minutes! It’s still a work in progress, but little steps climb mountains. Or something like that.

Give yourself things to look forward to. It’s almost like bribing yourself, but having something in the morning to get up for is going to make you want to do it. I don’t really need to do this any more, but in the early days of trying to get up earlier and enjoy it, I really did need all of the motivation I could get! Whether it was the promise of a yoga session, an extra twenty minutes to binge-watch vlogs whilst I got ready (look no further than Emma Hill or The Anna Edit, they’re a dream) or cups of tea in bed, these little things became a reason to get up and get on with the day.

Let in the light and open the windows. Hallelujah, it’s no longer like the dead of night when it’s time to get up! Since mid-February when the mornings started getting warmer and lighter, my mood rose so quickly. We all know getting up when it’s dark and cold outside is ten times harder, so putting ourselves into new routines throughout the Spring and Summer gives us a better shot of carrying it on throughout the colder months too. Matt and I sleep with the window open every night (although, not too open. A few weeks ago, our next door neighbour’s cat let himself in during the middle of the night, plonked his bum on our bedside table and DRANK OUR GLASS OF WATER. guys. IT DRANK FROM THE GLASS. I woke up to the sound of his tongue lapping it up and screamed until Matt woke up. I sh*t you not. Also, we are not cat people hahaha). Anyway, I digress, but waking up to a light chill in the room is actually quite nice, and I find it weirdly motivating. It’s not freezing cold, so I find it just wakes me up a little more. Also, any excuse to wear bae’s dressing gown while I get ready, it’s so much cosier than mine!

Experiment with delicious breakfasts. Let’s be honest, food is the best part of everyone’s day, and in my opinion breakfast food just pips anything else to the top of the list. If you have time for homemade pancakes and berries covered in syrup then more power to you, but I’m thinking the quick, easy options are the best to go for in the mornings before work. Think avocado toast, oatmeal, Special K (I’m having a bit of a love affair with that right now!) or smoothies packed with all the goodies. If there’s one thing that’s sure to get me excited about getting up it’s food! Also, not to sound like your grandma, but breakfast is so important. Even if you’re running super late and barely have time to catch your breath, at least grab a banana or protein bar, you’ll thank me for it when the 11am slump doesn’t arrive!

I hope this post helped to give you a little inspiration, or maybe a few laughs at least! Are you a morning person? Do you enjoy getting up and getting on with your day? Please let me know your tips in the comments below!

Proving To Myself That The Little Things Make A Big Difference

Hi loves, happy Wednesday!

Today’s post is shorter than most, but that’s okay, because the little things make the biggest difference. See what I did there? I’ve been feeling a little down in the dumps recently, and I’ve had to work extra hard to see the good in each day. (Please see this post for a little more perspective, it happens to the best of us, right?!) For over a week I felt like the second I got out of bed in the morning I was already on a countdown to getting back into it that night. Now, of course being snuggled with Matt is always going to be my ultimate happy place and heading off to work isn’t going to be the happiest part of my day, but it’s so draining to have no energy, and to feel like each day is a struggle in itself.

I just had a lot of those days, nothing was specifically wrong, but I set myself a task to make note of random things through the day that made me smile. Some of these are generic things that happen every day and some are random and uncommon. I’m a big believer in voicing gratitude and showing appreciation, and I hope this post helps to remind others there’s always good in each day. Here’s a little summary of the little things that made me smile last week – there obviously were tons of little things, I just tried to focus on things that people may find relatable (minus the Dwayne Johnson story)…

M O N D A Y

-Matt and I woke up twenty minutes earlier than usual and spent the morning snuggling and chatting
-It was super sunny and warm
-Every traffic light on the way to work was green (that’s EIGHT of them)
-I got the cutest phone call from Matthew
-We spent a fun night with my second family, and made the best enchiladas for dinner

W E D N E S D A Y

-I showed Matt the Southwest flight attendant video this morning (he’s been living under a rock, clearly) and felt all the warm fuzzy’s at how funny and sweet the lady is
-I ate an iced split from Gregg’s for the first time in years
-I squeezed in an hour’s yoga before a long hot bubble bath and I’m not sure which felt better
-My post-yoga messy bun looked better than one I’d tried to make look good for twenty minutes (okay, this is bittersweet)
-I managed to grab the bits I wanted from the Zoella X Colourpop collaboration (more on that on the blog once it arrives!), plus a highlighter and lipgloss I’ve been eyeing up for ages
-Matt brought me home a new MacBook charger because mine was completely broken. The £80.00 price tag didn’t make me so happy LOL

He makes me so happy 🙂

T H U R S D A Y

-Matt and I had time to have a cup of tea together
-I nailed the rap from You’re Welcome on the way to work. Dwayne Johnson would have been PROUD… side note I met Dwayne Johnson. Everyone I’ve ever met for three seconds or less has probably heard this story, but we were in LA and he was at his movie premier and, yeah, we’re basically besties ~so casual~ ~so relatable~
-I ate Special K with Alpro Almond Coconut milk (which is my current breakfast of choice at work – highly recommend), but I was so hungry it tasted better than ever
-I was coming up to traffic on my way home from work, so I put my hazards on to warn the car behind me and then he put his hazards on to warn the car behind him. I love when this happens, weirdest feeling of accomplishment ever HAHA
-I went to my second home straight from work and was so happy to catch up with Matt’s parents, I hadn’t seen them for two days which felt like forever
-Matt and I made our plans for the weekend which always makes me super excited
-We also made the best pasta together and I want to eat it RIGHT NOW

-I had the weekend feeling driving to work, knowing I’d be heading home for a fun weekend in eight hours
-It was my company’s year-end, so we all had lunch together and our MD gave a little speech in the boardroom about us all doing a great job
-Anna’s new series, Everyday March, started on her Youtube Channel
-Matt and I went to Nando’s for dinner for the first time in so long
-At Nando’s, we bumped into my lovely friend Grace and her boyfriend. We only seen them for a short time as they were meeting friends but she was so smiley and sweet it literally made my day
-Matt and I snuggled up when we got home with glasses of our fave Whitney Neill gin (rhubarb and ginger, obvs) and lemonade

-I popped into Blue Lotus (the only place I’d go for piercings) to see if they could squeeze me in but they were fully booked, however I got a new earring and we got to see Nici for the first time in ages – the sweetest lady who works there. She’s such a breath of fresh air
-The beautiful flowers outside Fenwick’s
-I finally got some extra ideas on what else to buy Matt for his birthday (he’s so hard to buy for because he buys whatever he wants for himself!)
-We had a super chilled evening watching our shows and eating Domino’s. Perfect

S U N D A Y

-Matt was so full of energy dancing around from the second he got out of bed, which gave me a burst of energy (and a giggle at his expense, he’s so cute)
-He went to play golf with the boys for the morning, so I spent a little time beginning to write up this post, with my candles burning and Himalayan pink salt lamp on, feeling like I really had my life together. I don’t, lol
