My Skincare Routine

Hi, loves!

As promised in my last post – here is my skincare routine!

I feel like the skincare industry is so very confusing – so many products, in my opinion, are very overpriced and honestly do not live up to the crazy claims they make. Unfortunately skincare really is trial and error – it has taken me a long time to find out which products work well for my skin. I have combination, acne-prone skin, and please keep in mind what works for me might not work as well for you, and vice versa. *One thing to make clear* I do not follow skincare ‘rules’. As I pretty much live between my house and my boyfriends, I have condensed my daily routine as much as possible… (less is more, people!)

Morning Routine

In the mornings I tend to keep things very simple. My getting-ready routine in general is pretty snappy. Don’t get me wrong, I like to look put together, but in all honesty I’d rather have an extra 20 minutes of cuddles in bed!

I used to wash my face twice per day, however I find that tends to dry out my skin and leave it feeling tight/uncomfortable. For the past year or so the only thing I use to cleanse my skin after waking up is micellar water – my favourites are Garnier and Simple. I wipe the micellar water over my face with a cotton pad (these are the my favourites) to remove any residue left behind from products I used the previous night.

Lip balm – the most essential skincare item for me! I am that girl that has lip balms everywhere – in my bag, in my car, on my bedside table, on Matt’s bedside table, at my desk! I feel uncomfortable when I don’t have lip balm on and as soon as I brush my teeth in the morning I feel like I need to re-apply right away. I have found that most lip balms I’ve tried work really well, however my favourites are Glossier Balm Dot Com, Nivea Hydro Lip and Dior Addict Lip Glow.

Some mornings I spray my face with La Roche Posay Serozinc; this is not an ‘essential’ and something I often skip over. Two things I can’t ever skip over are eye cream and moisturiser. I used Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado (not pictured) for a long time but found I kept getting dry patches under my eyes. I’m now trying out two new eye creams from Clinique and Kate Somerville – I think I’m going to purchase the Clinique one as I really like it! My daytime moisturiser is Origins Ginzing Energy Boosting moisturiser. I find my makeup applies nicely over this, and it keeps my skin moisturised without making my face look greasy. It also smells divine!

Evening Routine

As I generally have more time in the evenings, my routine is a little more relaxed and includes a few extra steps.

Taking my makeup off is always my favourite part of the day (minus snuggling into Matt to go to sleep!) I have three favourite cleansers, and I tend to use them in rotation. However, recently I have been reaching for the Clinique Take The Day Off cleanser every night – I just repurchased for the third time which shows how much I love it! This removes my makeup so well, even waterproof mascara, and I love the smell! My other favourites are Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser and The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter. Although I said I don’t follow skincare ‘rules’ I am a big fan of the double cleanse. I do try to use smaller amounts of product each time so I don’t use them up too quickly. If I’m feeling really tired (or lazy) I will take off my makeup with Simple or Yes to Cucumbers face wipes – this is a no judgement zone!

After cleansing my skin, I apply lip balm (obviously!) and then alternate between my La Roche Posay Serozinc (pictured above) and Glossier Solution. Both of these products are aimed at helping oily, blemished skin and I think they are great! Solution has been a little bit of a miracle worker for me; I used to have noticeable acne scarring on my cheeks/forehead and since using this product they are barely visible. I love the applicator too, you just place a cotton pad over the top of the pump – no mess!

I also alternate my serums between Glossier Super Pure and various serums from The Ordinary – my current favourite is EUK 1.34 0.1% which seems to really reduce redness in my skin. To be honest I know very little about serums or how they work, however after a lot of reading on and a little trial and error, I have found which products work best for me. Don’t let the scientific sounding names put you off – I love most of the products I’ve tried (and they’re SO inexpensive!)

I use the Clinique Moisture Surge Intense moisturiser every night; it is recommended for ‘very dry to dry combination skin’ however I absolutely love it. My very first ‘high end’ makeup and skincare products were from Clinique and I feel like I’ll always have a soft spot for the brand. This sinks into the skin and makes it feel smooth and plump – in the best way. My mam also uses this moisturiser and swears by it!

And there you have it, my minimal (as possible) skincare routines. I hope the above was helpful to you, and I’d love to hear about any products you’d recommend!

Thank you so much for reading,
