Feelin’ It Friday

Happy, happy (black) Friday, loves! Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year and I’m sure if you’re on the internet today, you’re shopping… not reading my blog. *Cries* but if you did take five minutes out of your jam packed shopping day to come see little old me then THANK YOU. I appreciate it! I hope all my American readers had the best Thanksgiving celebration with family yesterday; it’s such a sweet tradition and I so wish we had something similar in the UK. I mean, we did steal Black Friday, why couldn’t we steal the part with all the yummy food?! I was drooling over all the photos of amazing food like I do every year, I’m so jealous! There’s a lot packed in today’s post, so let’s get going!

What I’m wearing:
I am genuinely obsessed with my new scarf from Tartan Blanket Co. because it makes me feel like CHRISTMAS. I feel like it’s just what Mrs Claus would wear! Seriously, how can you look at that and not feel immediately happy? I purchased the Stewart Royal Oversized scarf in the shade Red, and I’ve worn it every day since I bought it. It’s 100% wool so it’s super warm and worth every penny; it is so well made and will last you a lifetime. I really want to get another scarf in a more muted, neutral tone (maybe this one? Thoughts?!) so I’m hoping I’ll be able to snag one with a little Black Friday discount today! I’m also so beyond happy with my new Winter coat but I love it so much it’s getting it’s own post soon. What I’m watching:
Hahahaha. That meme is ME!!! Holiday movies! Last weekend Matt and I went to see Last Christmas which you need to go see, it’s amazing! Although, consider this your word of warning because I didn’t realise it was a sad movie and I SOBBED in the cinema hahaha. Cheesy Christmas movies are my very favourite, and it’s got to the time of year I want to snuggle up in bed with Matt and watch Hallmark movies on repeat. I also love that everyone wears plaid shirts in these movies ALL THE TIME and I feel like my wardrobe is seriously lacking in the plaid department. Also, I love the classics just as much! Home Alone, Elf, Miracle on 34th Street etc… you all have my heart. Is it acceptable to take a whole day off work to watch movies? Pretty please tell me it is? Matt and I of course still watching Strictly each week and we’re SO HAPPY Chris is still in the competition (well, Matt isnโ€™t such a fan of the show but he watches because he loves me!) and weโ€™re loving I’m A Celebrity this year, itโ€™s great reality TV!

What I’m worried about:
So I didn’t have a photo for this one and decided to share this festive photo of the restaurant Matt and I had lunch at this past weekend. We LOVE going out to eat because we get to totally relax and it’s so nice to enjoy food we haven’t cooked ourselves :). I just feel worried in general! For a long time I felt really good and like myself again, but this past week or so I’ve slowly began to feel anxious and ‘off’, hence not posting on Wednesday. I hate missing posts, I’m so sorry! It’s not a constant feeling and it’s not completely ruining every day but I’m just feeling really anxious and not myself. I think I may be suffering a little bit with SAD which is strange because I don’t think that normally affects me, at least not yet. I love Autumn and the build up to Christmas so I feel rubbish that I’ve not been enjoying it as much as I usually do. Matt and I have so many fun plans coming up and we just had the best weekend so I’m really hoping I can put aside any more anxious feelings and fully enjoy the Christmas season. January is going to be the start of a serious Self Care Month for me, and I’m hoping to do a few things to change my mindset and stop me feeling so anxious all the time. I’ll be sharing everything on the blog in time!

What I’m buying:
Almost everything Matt and I have purchased the past few weeks have been Christmas gifts for our families (and each other) – thanks to the early Black Friday discounts we’re so close to being done with our holiday shopping and just have a few more things to buy next month! – but I did just pick up this beautiful lip balm last week and I’m already obsessed with it. I’ve never had a Fresh lip balm before as they only have become available in the UK fairly recently, but I’ve seriously been missing out! This lip balm is so pigmented and leaves the best pop of colour, as well as being so moisturising and not at all sticky. It’s literally my perfect lip balm! I highly recommend picking one up if you’re wanting to treat yourself to a little something this Black Friday ๐Ÿ™‚ I also really would love that scarf from Tartan Blanket Co, but we’ll see!

What I’m listening to:
I’m of course listening to Shagged, Married, Annoyed every week because it’s my favourite podcast ever. ๐Ÿ™‚ I started listening to Office Ladies this month too and it is so funny! I love hearing more about the behind-the-scenes element of filming, and they have had guests from the show too which is great. I love love love Jenna Fischer, she is so different than Pam! When you watch a person in a show you kind of just assume the character is like the actor… or is that just me?! I really wish they didn’t call each other ‘lady’ so much though, haha. This week I listened to a podcast Shay Shull was a guest on recently and I so enjoyed hearing more from Shay. I wish she’d release her own podcast already! I don’t want to name it because honestly… I didn’t love the girl whose podcast Shay was a guest on. She came across kinda rude to me and I felt a little awkward for Shay even though she did a great job. I just want to be Shay when I grow up. Hahaha.

What I’m excited for:
The whole month of December!!! There’s so much to look forward to this month and I’m giddy about it all. I’m super excited about a few things in particular; Matt and I are going to see Jack Whitehall next week, my mum and I have a shopping day planned in town, Matt and I are going for our annual festive trip to visit the Christmas markets in Edinburgh and before we know it, it’ll be CHRISTMAS DAY! I can’t wait for all of the fun festive things in between and I’m always so aware and grateful for all of my blessings this time of year, especially. I’m also recording a Week In My life from the middle of next week, so you’ll get to come along to lots of fun things with us! ๐Ÿ™‚

What my favourite Lush product of the month is:
I thought I’d start a fun little *extra* segment to my Feelin’ It Friday’s, because so many people ask me what my favourite products are from Lush and what I think are worth the money! If you fancy treating yourself before Christmas a few Lush goodies is one of the best things in my opinion, and they also make for perfect stocking filler gifts. This month my most recommended product just has to be the Snow Fairy bath bomb! It is the perfect fun bath product for this time of year, and I’m a sucker for the Snow Fairy scent. I don’t often buy bath bombs because you only get the one bath out of them and that’s a pretty expensive bath (compared to getting at least four from a bubble bar) but I like to treat myself around the holidays!

What I’m eating:
Matt and I are officially enjoying ALL of the Christmas treats, especially Christmas chocolate! I love love love the big tubs of chocolates at this time of year and we’ve started sneaking a few when we watch I’m A Celebrity in the evenings which has been so fun. Each night we’re really enjoying eating more hearty dinners; soups, pasta bakes, rice dishes, pie with mash and veggies… pretty much all the good stuff that you just have to eat when the weather gets colder!

What I’m recommending for Black Friday:
Okay so I’ve already shared Christmas gift ideas for the ladies and the men in your life, and also a round up of stocking fillers/Secret Santa presents under ยฃ20, so be sure to check those out if you’re struggling for gift ideas. Shopping the sales is so great because you can find some incredible discounts! Also, remember if *the item* you’re looking at is something that wasn’t already on your radar or is not a great Christmas gift this year, you don’t need it. Set yourself a budget and don’t go too crazy – impulse purchases are not your friend!

Blogging Q&A

Hey, loves! A couple of weeks ago I reached out and asked on my Instagram stories if you had any blogging related questions you’d like me to answer. I was super scared nobody would ask questions (LOL) but I thankfully got quite a good response, although some people asked the same or similar questions which I’ve just mixed together. I love reading posts like this because as a blogger – and as an aspiring blogger before I created my own blog – I love to know other people’s behind-the-scenes! I talk a lot about my real life on here, and I’ve never been, nor will I ever be, one of those bloggers with an incredibly professional set up. I admire the beautiful photogenic blogs SO much, but it’s just not me. I take my photos on my iPhone X, I will never do a professional photo shoot for blog content (not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just not my thing) and I’m happy in my own little world over here. So, let’s A some of your Q’s…

Why did you start writing your blog?
It was a dream I thought would never come true. I’d read blogs for so many years, and felt so connected and inspired by the people running them. Many of the girls I followed moved from blogging to vlogging and I felt like I knew them even more; I genuinely talk about Anna and Emma as if they’re my high school besties, which Matt finds hilarious! I loved the connection I felt as a reader, and I always hoped one day I’d find the courage to create my own. Fast forward four years of loving everything about blogs, and I’d poured my heart out to Matt about how I’d always thought one day I’d do it myself, but I just never had and now it was too late. Like the amazing man he is, he encouraged me to start right there and then, and I did. I bought my blog domain at the end of May 2018, and just began writing. I had NO IDEA what to expect, how any of it worked, or how it would be received, but I did it anyway. The day my first post went live (10th June, 2018) I was a nervous wreck in case people were mean. Matt and I went out for Sunday dinner at our favourite local pub and I could barely eat because I was so nervous. Over the past year I’ve found my routine, and now I love every aspect of running and owning my blog, I’m so proud of it!

What is your favourite thing about writing? / How do you make time to write?
It is very freeing, and it just feels good to get lost in my own little world. I think we spend SO MUCH TIME worrying about others, pleasing others and doing what others want to do, and it’s important to actually take a step back and be a little selfish sometimes. My number one priorites are always going to be my relationship, our family and friends and work, but when I can just sit and blog, I love to totally switch off from the world. When I’m writing I always get super comfy under a blanket, and usually have a cup of tea or hot chocolate. By ‘a cup’ I mean at least three, because I write for so long! I usually listen to podcasts, watch old YouTube vlogs (Jade Billington‘s are my favourite!) or play Your Favourite Coffeehouse playlist on Spotify although sometimes I just write in silence. I think making writing time an enjoyable experience makes it something I look forward to, and not something I stress about having to get done, even though I’m working to deadlines. Editing usually looks very different; I tend to do that whenever/wherever I can squeeze it in, often whilst we’re in the car or when I’m in the bath I’ll be proof-reading or editing on my phone.

How do you grow your audience?
I’m struggling a little to answer this, as although my blog is growing, it’s very slowly and steadily, not super quick. I think having a schedule and posting consistently is a huge factor in people coming back to my blog over and over, but I’m not really sure how people find my little corner of the internet. I find self-promoting my blog a little weird and awkward, so I try to only do that when it comes to new posts going live. I interact with other bloggers whose blogs I adore, and building those relationships is a great way to interest other people in your posts. I don’t have the most professional set up or look, but I think that can give my blog a cosy ~homey~ vibe, which hopefully people enjoy.

Do you ever get stuck for ideas?
Not really, because I plan my posts so far in advance! I don’t write my post there and then; I have the original idea so I’ll write my title, make any notes – usually this is points I want to make in the post, products I want to talk about, photo ideas etc and then I ‘schedule’ that for a date in a few weeks time and save the draft. Then, when it comes to writing the post, most of the ground work is done and I’m able to just start writing. I find it hard to make things concise though sometimes LOL, but it’s okay because I waffle on in real life just as much. The only posts I do write not long before they go live is my Feelin’ It Friday’s as they’re quick and about the week we’re currently in. I usually prep those on the Thursday night, then edit/update on Friday morning before it goes live.

Where do you get inspiration for your blog?
I get my inspiration from just whatever is going on in my life. If we’re going on a road trip, I want to share our essentials, if I’m really obsessed with a brand, I want to tell you the things I’d recommend most, if Matt and I are having a fun weekend, I take photos throughout the days and round it up for you. I also listen to comments I get, side note: people are always asking me to share dinner recipes so that post will be coming in a few weeks! I’m of course inspired by other bloggers and by YouTube content creators, and I think I’ve carved a path for my blog that means I can write about pretty much anything I want to. I never intended on sharing so much of Matt and I’s life, but I love doing it in the way I do; it’s like an extension of Instagram, where it’s real and honest, yet never staged or ‘for the blog’.

Do you feel guilty being sent products for free?
I’m not really sure how to answer this question because I don’t understand what there is to feel guilty about. Is it absolutely insane? YES. Is it surreal? YES. Is it amazing? YES. I wouldn’t say I feel ‘guilty’ because I truly put so much time and effort into my blog, which I don’t think is something that people outside of my close circle or the blogging world will realise. I only accept products that fit with me and my blog, as I’ve had some emails which just don’t work for me so I’ve politely declined. I’d never recommend something I wouldn’t purchase myself, and I’ll always be very honest if a product doesn’t work for me. My disclaimer is linked here, if you’d like a little more clarification. I truly am so grateful for every product I’ve been sent and every PR agency or brand that wants to work with me, it’s mind-blowing that my little blog is even capable of this!

Where do you see your blog in one years time?
My blog will be two years old by then, and I’m hoping it would have continued to grow with me, but I’ll definitely be creating the same kind of content. I really do want to become more comfortable in front of the camera, and Matt is always trying to encourage me to take photos when we’re out and about, which is making me slightly warm up to the idea. I know I’m not photogenic as it is, but then when I’m specifically ‘posing’ for a photo, I truly just go to pot HAHA. I would love to figure out my photography style a little more too, as I’m learning more and more about how I like to take photos and I’m hoping as a result my blog looks more streamlined and pretty.

Have you ever been recognised in public from your blog?
Haha, no I have not! I have had a weird moment in The Body Shop (I mean, where else?) where I was restocking on a few products and a girl who went to my school – she was a few years below me and we knew of each other, but didn’t know each other, if that makes sense – asked what I’d recommend she buy. She said she read my blog and purchased the Vitamin E Serum-in-Oil because of my review and loved it, which was seriously like an out of body experience.

Does blogging take up lots of your time?
Yes and no. It does take a lot of time and effort, but I try to set aside specific time to write, edit, take photos etc, so that I don’t feel overwhelmed. As I always try to plan ahead I don’t feel like it ‘takes up lots of time’ necessarily, because that time is specifically for blogging. I work a real 9-5 job, and blogging is my hobby so it’s something I like to do. Sometimes I really feel like I should spend an hour or two writing and editing during an evening, but I’m always going to opt for snuggling in with Matt to watch Netflix instead! I talked a lot about this in this post, and covered the ins and outs of how I find the time to blog here, too!

Do you feel weird about people you know in real life reading your blog?
I used to find it SO weird, but now I don’t really think about it too much. I know some people who know of me may read to pick flaws or to laugh at me (I had an experience with that when I first started out blogging) but I’m 25 years old, and not in high school. Although, my co-workers love to read on their lunch breaks and tell me as they’re reading, that is kinda weird haha. I know that people I know read it, and I’m truly very grateful for the views I get. I hope that people who like to read my blog tell their friends who will then tell their friends, that would be amazing! One thing I will always find strange is that I sometimes will talk about something on my blog – especially now in my Feelin’ It Friday posts – and people will see me and say things like “did you and Matt love that movie you went to see last weekend?!” or “I seen you were at Wagamama’s again!” The weirdest thing is when someone tells me they’ve bought something because of what I said about it. I never imagined that but I’ve had so many messages from people telling me!

Travelling 101: Tips & Tricks To Get Your Holiday Off To The Best Start

Hi loves! Holiday season is fast approaching, and I know lots of people that are going on holiday soon! Matt and I leave TOMORROW, and we’ve been talking a lot over the past few weeks about the preparation and planning to make sure we’re feeling organised. This is definitely more my input than Matt’s – I hate not having a plan together, and I try to do anything that will make our lives easier. Planning trips is one of my most favourite things to do from the second we book our flights, and I feel like there’s a ton of things that you should do in the build up/during your travels to make things run a little more smoothly. This post is packed with handy tips and tricks that we’ve learned over the years, I hope you find them useful for your next holiday!

So, your travel insurance is all arranged, your countdown is fast approaching 0 and all you can talk about is your upcoming holiday. What should you be doing in the build up to, or during, travelling?!

Use a backpack for your carry on. Seriously, no matter how cute your new beach bag might look, you’re going to wish you took a backpack, especially if you’re an over packer like me. Matt and I both take backpacks, and they’re so easy. Backpacks can fit so many things (Mary Poppins who?!), there’s lots of compartments to organise your things, the weight is distributed evenly on your back so it’s easier to carry and you get to keep it under the seat in front of you, which is way easier than putting it in the overhead bins. Have I sold you on taking a backpack? Yes? Good. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Pack a crossbody bag inside your carry on with all of your essentials. It just makes sense; this is where you can keep all the things you’ll want to have to hand before, during or after your flight. I always keep Matt and I’s passports and my card holder in here! I use my crossbody bag throughout the holiday during the evenings, and it’s just big enough to fit what I actually need. I always need to make sure there’s a little room in there for my boyfriend’s sunglasses, wallet, and whatever else he decides to throw in, lol! There will be a post up all about my carry on essentials this coming Wednesday, but until then, you can check out what I took last year here.

Check in for your flight online. It saves waiting in so many lines at the airport, you can allocate your own seats and you feel a little bit smug just having to drop off your checked luggage! Matt and I checked in two weeks before the date of our flight and it made us even more excited, it actually made it feel real then. When it comes to booking our seats, we always try to allocate them on/around the wing because you don’t feel any turbulence as much here!

Always take cash in all of the currencies of the countries you’re travelling from/through/to, as well as your debit card. In the airport in England we’ll just use our debit cards, but we’ll make sure to have cash just in case too. If you’re planning on purchasing things on the plane you’ll need the currency of the country you’re going from/to, but sometimes you can be caught out on exchange rates making things a little more costly. Also be sure to keep your cash for your destination safely zipped away deep inside your carry on!

Print out all of your information so you have hard copies: boarding passes, hotel information, transfer details, travel insurance documents. I’m a planner, what can I say? Even though we have all of this information on our phones, I’m a little paranoid we might run out of battery (even though I’m obviously taking a battery pack) or our phones may not connect to the new service provider properly. Having hard copies is just good practice, I think!

Download the app for your airline, the airports you’re travelling from/through/to and your holiday provider. You can get flight information, including which terminal/gate you’re flying from sometimes before it’s announced in the airport. We use the countdown on our TUI app from the moment we book our holiday – we’ve been counting down for over 130 days and now we’re literally one day away today. What the heck! You can get all of your transfer and hotel information in your holiday providers app, as well as weather, transport and excursions details.

Take a fully charged external battery pack and the appropriate charging cables. Matt and I will each have our phones, Fitbit’s and toothbrushes to charge, and we’re also taking one of our Echo Dot’s so we can play music when we’re getting ready in the evenings. The likelihood of sitting in an airport next to an outlet is very low, and not all planes are equipped with USB ports, although come on people, it’s 2019! I always carry a battery pack, it charges our phones like five times! I know Matt will use this before me as I always have my low power mode on and the battery on my phone just seems to last longer!

Weigh your bag before you leave to avoid delays or extra charges when you arrive at the airport. During family holidays when I was younger, we’d fly to Florida with three suitcases, and return with eight. Seriously. The deals were just that good! Now, Matt and I take a suitcase each, but there’s wiggle room between the two of us if one of our bags were overweight. It’s pretty easy to stay underweight when you’re travelling to a tropical location as your clothes weigh less, but sometimes toiletries really increase the weight. You can buy luggage scales for super cheap on Amazon, and they’re reliable! Just make sure to pack them so you can check all your new souvenirs aren’t weighing you down before your return flight too.

Carry a re-usable water bottle – just don’t fill it up until you’re through security! My Chilly’s bottle is LIFE. I’ll be using this during our holiday too, and we’re for sure going to be grateful for it during our super long transfer from the airport to our hotel so we don’t need to buy bottles of water. Last year when we got to Kos, we made it to the bus in record time (our suitcases were literally the first two off the conveyor belt) and were so smug waiting for everyone to board. However, we didn’t think about the fact it was still 27 degrees at 11pm(!!) and we had to wait over an hour to get water! NOT smart(water). Get it? I’m here all night.

Wear (or pack in your carry on) a comfy sweater or jacket. And fluffy socks, if you’re like me and are always freezing. Seriously, planes are SO COLD and no matter what lovely warm climate you might be heading to, you’ll wish you had at least a jacket with you for your journey. In Europe, it often feels a little cooler in the evenings (even when it’s technically still 25+ degrees, lol) and there is also air con in most restaurants and bars, so it’ll come in super handy during your trip too!

Take lots of reading material in your carry on bag. Keeping yourself entertained on a flight is SO important. Matt and I talk so much, but we also like to unwind with our book or magazines and just switch off. We’re in vacay mode the second we set foot in the airport, and it’s the best feeling to get lost in a new book!

Allow enough time to browse duty free leisurely. If you take shopping as seriously as me (lol) you don’t want to be rushing when there could be amazing deals to be found! Ever since I was younger I’ve loved browsing duty free, and since I was around 11 my mum and dad made a big deal of me being allowed a fancy perfume each time we travelled. They’re so good to me! My love of buying perfume at the airport never stopped, and I still do almost every time. This year I’m hoping to pick up a bottle of Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet! Matt is also hoping to get a new aftershave, I love that we’re now making our own traditions together.

Pack your liquids in a see-through bag. You will seriously regret not following the rules if you have to step to the side and try to squeeze your liquids into a teeny little airport-provided bag. That you have to pay for. You’ll also be super embarrassed, or I would be anyway! You can pick up clear, travel approved bags almost anywhere nowadays for really inexpensive prices, although I have this one from Space NK that I love. I’ll also be sharing what I pack in here in Wednesday’s post!

Take the essentials to keep you feeling (and smelling) clean/fresh in case of a delay, or a super stuffy airport/airplane. Planes might always be cold, but they can be pretty stuffy too! Deodorant, bio-degradable wipes, lip balm, your favourite rollerball perfume, a face spray. These are the things that if you don’t take, you’ll wish you did! It’s better to be safe than sorry, and the travel sized versions of these products are so small you won’t even notice the space they take up!

Buy food in the airport for the plane, and to cover you for your transfer at your destination. I’m not a big fan of airplane food, and to be honest I don’t think many people are! I’d much prefer to grab something I like from before we jump on the plane, and any delays getting to your hotel could leave you hangry. Matt and I always pack sweets and protein bars , and we’ll grab our favourite crisps, maybe a sandwich and plenty of water in the airport. And of course, Diet Coke!

Pack travel adaptors in your carry on. You don’t want to be rummaging around your suitcase for adaptors when you get to your hotel, especially after a long travelling day. Also, we take an extension cord with us (in our checked luggage) which means you can charge up to six items with only one adaptor!

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that are easy to take off/put back on at security. It’s just common sense; it makes the lines move quicker, and it gives you more shopping/drinking time in the airport, which is the best part of being there! I’m wearing my Birkenstocks to travel in because they’re just so flipping comfy, and not at all a hassle to slide off through security. My travel outfit is still being decided, but I’m pretty sure I’m going for a Levi’s t-shirt, black leggings and an oversized denim jacket I can throw on if when I get a little chilly!

Take at least one outfit, swimwear and fresh underwear in your carry on bag incase your luggage gets lost or delayed. Okay, this is maybe just for the worriers and anxious travellers like me, but I would much rather have the peace of mind knowing I’d be able to get through a day or two without my suitcase, if it were to get lost. I’m so scared of this happening!

Carry ibuprofen, paracetemol, travel sickness tablets and any other important medication in an easy-to-find spot. These are the kind of things I used to throw into my bag then have to empty the whole contents to find what I’m looking for. Matt and I sometimes suffer with a little travel sickness and I’m prone to aches and pains caused by my arthritis – there’s so much sitting around during travel days! I always keep these in the outside facing pocket of my backpack, so they’re super easy to reach.

TV Shows You Need In Your Life

Matt and I are forever looking for new shows, and when we love something we really go hard on the binge watching! *Cue getting snuggled up together with a huge cosy blanket and a bowl of popcorn* We loved Narcos and Peaky Blinders a lot, and we really thought we’d never find anything we’d enjoy as much! Recently we’ve watched a few things that we’ve not stopped talking about or recommending to others, and you know they’re the really good ones. I love getting an insight into what other people have been watching, and seeing what people recommend and why. There’s so many shows we want to watch next, but I think we’ll start watching House of Cards and Dead To Me – I’m sure if we love them they’ll be featured on the blog sometime!

After Life, Netflix
You’ll love this if you liked: … I don’t think anything compares
I’ve talked about this already in this post and this post, but I seriously can’t recommend it enough. I’m sure almost everyone has seen this by now, but if you haven’t it’s an incredible show. Written, produced and directed by Ricky Gervais, who also plays the lead character, Tony, the show follows what it’s really like to suffer with depression. Tony’s wife sadly passed away from breast cancer, and the six part series shows how his life is affected by this, and how he tries to find his new normal. It’s horribly sad but also very funny and light hearted in places; I laughed and cried throughout each episode. Ricky Gervais is currently writing season two and I know so many people are anticipating the next part of the story, we can’t wait!

You’ll love this if you liked: The Hills, Million Dollar Listing
Okay so Matt wasn’t on board with this one, but I binge watched this one Sunday a few weeks ago when Matt was at work and I loved it. The girls are beautiful, bitchy and brilliant, it’s that same kind of trashy ‘reality’ TV that lots of girls in their early *cough* mid *cough* twenties will also love. Produced by the same guy who brought us The Hills, which was literally my favourite show growing up, it’s easy to see why I had a soft spot for this show. Chrishell is my favourite character by far, she’s so sweet and definitely seemed the most genuine out of all the girls. She’s the Lauren Conrad of the group, for sure! I’m pretty sure the storylines are completely fake, but it’s entertaining all the same, and you can bet if there’s another season I’ll binge watch that too!

Jack Ryan, Amazon Prime Video
You’ll love this if you liked: Narcos, Homeland
Hands down, the best show we’ve watched. Spoiler: it beats Narcos! The show is named after the lead character Jack Ryan – played by John Krasinski who I love – and the series follows his journey of being a CIA analyst who goes from sitting at a desk, to being front and centre with the criminals he’s been tracking. This show was one we could not predict; you know when you think you know what’s going to happen because it’s so obvious? No, it’s never what you think! Throughout the series, Jack is working as part of a team to stop an Islamic terrorist from following through with this devastating plans, and the story is gripping, emotional, sad and heartwarming all at the same time. There are some brutal scenes, but I promise it’s worth the tears you’ll shed. Matt has a new man crush on John, too! Season two is being filmed right now and I’m so excited – it’s a whole new story but I know it’s going to be just as good.

Our Planet, Netflix
You’ll love this if you liked: Planet Earth, Dynasties
Another incredible show by Sir David Attenborough, our national treasure. The shots throughout this season are incredibly beautiful; showcasing the most beautiful deserts to undersea worlds to rainforests and some of the incredible animals living on our planet. The show focuses very heavily on what the human race is doing to our planet – we’re literally destroying it in front of our eyes – and there are some distressing scenes. The walrus scene was heartbreaking, both Matt and I sat in silence for a good five minutes after that scene in complete shock (I was crying. Naturally). If you don’t already have the determination to do your bit to help save planet Earth, this will definitely give you it. You can also check out this post for some easy things you can start doing to help live a more sustainable lifestyle today.

Ambulance, BBC One
You’ll love this if you liked: Inside The Ambulance, 999 What’s Your Emergency?
Matt and I have watched this show since it first started and it’s one of our favourite ever shows, each season brings more joy! There have been seasons shot in Birmingham and Manchester, and even a spin off called Ambulance: Australia which was based in Melbourne, they’re all so good. You feel so close to all of the paramedics; they often share personal stories and you see their vulnerability and strength throughout each episode. The show is always based on one shift, and in a 12 hour window you get a very honest depiction of how things can be for our NHS paramedics. Emotions run high and I’d definitely recommend you grab a box of tissues before you sit down to watch, but I promise there are so many beautiful heart warming moments too! Forever grateful for our overworked and underpaid NHS, and so thankful for all that they do.

Brooklyn 99, Netflix
You’ll love this if you liked: The Office US, Parks & Recreation
This was one of those shows we stumbled across, and unbelievably we seemed to have missed all of the hype surrounding it. Since we started watching it and talking about it, everyone has wondered how we hadn’t seen it until now! Brooklyn 99 is a comedy based on a wonderfully mismatched group of NYPD detectives, and it’s laugh out loud funny in every episode. It’s your typical American sitcom (without the fake audience laughter, thank God) and it’s such a feel good show. Jake and Amy’s bond is the best, although Gina is 100% our favourite character, we die laughing at her! We’re still watching season one and we’ve got tons of episodes to get through; it’s great for when you don’t have lots of time but want to watch something before bed as each episode is only around 22 minutes, and it’s so easy to pick up where you left off!

Seven Beauty Changes I Want To Make

For someone running a blog that continues to feature pretty heavily on beauty related topics, I feel like I’m setting a pretty rubbish example when it comes to a lot of the behind-the-scenes beauty bits. I’ve been in a bit of a slump with the mountain of beauty treatments and habits I felt I should be doing, and as a result I’ve done very little in the way of ‘treating myself’. This isn’t something I’ve spoken about on my blog but I’ve put weight on (not enough to change dress sizes or anything, but enough that I feel really crap about it – pretty sure it’s related to the pill but I’ll delve into that in an upcoming post) and I’m feeling a bit rubbish about how I look. After a few too many tears to my boyfriend I decided that if I treated myself by indulging in a few new beauty habits (and changed my pill, lol) I might feel better, and get out of my little moping bubble. I’ve set myself a few tasks to do over the next few weeks/months, and I’m hoping they’ll become habits that I continue for years to come.

Apply a face mask at least once per week
Right now I use face masks pretty much when I remember, and that is usually on a Sunday evening. After fighting being roped into a pamper evening, Matt now loves to partake in #facemasksundays (sssh, he thinks nobody knows) and we’re slowly but surely working our way through my stash. I really need to make this more of a priority and I’m lucky that my skin generally reacts pretty well with the face masks I’m currently using in rotation. Ideally I want to use a purifying face mask once per week, and a hydrating good-for-the-skin mask once per week, so I’m hoping I can prioritise my time better to do this. I always feel so good after a face mask, and I’m sure Matt won’t take much convincing either, ha!

Change up my hair colour and style
I’m most excited about this one because I’ve got a date in the diary (this Friday! It can’t come soon enough) and I’m so ready for a fresh hairstyle, it’s long overdue. I’m getting a considerable cut – my hair is beyond damaged and I want it to look fresh and healthy again so bad – and I’m also going for a blondey caramel balayage. I’ve not had my hair dyed professionally for years and I’m the weirdest mix of nervous and excited, I feel like I just need something to freshen up my look and make me feel good again. I went for a consultation and allergy test this past Saturday, and I felt so at ease the second I walked in. The lovely girl who owns the salon was so friendly and knowledgable about hair, and all of my worries about changing it up disappeared. The salon I’m going to consistently posts the most beautiful photos of their clients finished looks and I can’t wait to see what magic they work on me! After my initial appointment I want to make sure to have follow ups and keep on top of my balayage and the cut, I think I’m going to feel so much better.

Take better care of my hair
In line with changing up my hair colour and style, I really need to take much better care of my hair in general. I’m so excited to have a new look, and I want to do what I can to make sure my hair stays looking nice between salon appointments too. My plan is to use hair masks more often, let my hair dry naturally most nights (much easier to do as the weather warms up) and stop straightening it so much. I noticed my hair breaks much less since buying my detangling Tangle Teezer brush and using Invisibobbles and scrunchies – such a cute trend, I love that they’re back! – so I’m hoping making further small changes will continue to help my hair. I know you’re not meant to wash you hair too much, so as I currently wash it every other day, I’m also looking for a new dry shampoo to help it last longer between washes without looking greasy.

Use my face roller daily
I’ve got my skincare routine down – all of my essentials are listed in this post, and they’re cruelty free! – but I really need to use my face roller more. As I mentioned in that post, I do use my face roller every now and then, but that’s really not enough. I’m not 100% convinced this is the miracle worker it is claimed (by some) to be, but I do feel like my skin looks better on the nights I use it, and I’m really going to try to make this part of my everyday evening routine. It’s also a super relaxing part of my evening routine, even if Matt finds it absolutely hilarious!

Get my nails done regularly
I go through stages with gel nails, and after getting them done continuously for the last half of 2018, I decided to give my nails (and bank account) a break, and leave my nails natural for a while. I tried to paint my own nails several times but it never worked out well; they chip so easily compared to gels, and they never looked as pretty. Since I got my gels taken off at the beginning of January I missed them so much – I realise this sounds ridiculously dramatic to anyone that doesn’t like getting their nails done, lol – and I’ve decided to begin treating myself every two to three weeks again. I love bright colours and simple glitter accents, and I think it boosts my mood so much to have them looking good. I just got fresh gels on Monday for the first time this year (I love the lilac!) and I’m so happy to have them back, I’m grateful it’s something I’m able to work into my monthly budget.

Invest in HD brows
I’ve been saying I’m going to look into HD brows for a very long time but it’s something that scares me a little bit. I really dislike my eyebrows as thirteen year old Gillian was very handy with a pair of tweezers, and they’ve never recovered. The tail end of my eyebrows literally didn’t grow for about five years, but in recent years it has finally grown back. They’re incredibly sparse; I have to use an eyebrow pencil and eyebrow gel every day, and even then I feel like my eyebrows still feel a bit meh. After reading this post recently from Jodie – who has the eyebrows of my dreams, by the way – I realised I just need to bite the bullet and go for it, there’s so many people that swear by the process and I’m hoping my eyebrows will look much better in no time. It’s an investment and it requires upkeep, but I’m sure it will save me so much more time each morning getting ready, and give brilliant results!

Drink more water
Yep. Groundbreaking. Like many, I really do not drink enough water daily and the only time I even can gaurantee I’ll reach for it is at night or post workout, as the rest of the time I opt for Diet Coke without even thinking about it. The obsession is real. Matt and I are constantly trying to drink more water and after a sudden love I’ve developed for squash I am drinking more than I used to, just still nowhere near enough. I really want to get in a regular habit of drinking glasses of water each day and I know my skin will benefit from that too, which is an added bonus!
