The Ultimate Festive Pamper Evening

Happy Sunday, loves! I’m so excited about today’s post because I just LOVE a pamper evening and I know lots of you do, too! I love nothing more than taking an hour or two on a Sunday evening (pre Strictly results show, of course) relaxing in a nice hot bath with all my favourite pamper treats. I take the time to treat my skin and my hair to a little bit more TLC than they get for the rest of the week and I always feel so good after! Matt sometimes joins in with my face mask sesh pre-bath and he really loves it too. All of the products in this post would make for amazing Christmas gifts, and I promise this post is not sponsored by The Body Shop (I wish!)

First things first, I like to set the mood. I feel the most relaxed with minimal lighting. Candles and lamps – particularly our Himalayan pink salt lamp Matt bought me for Christmas last year – make me feel so cosy and happy! I love to burn candles all year round, but at Christmas time I really appreciate a festive candle. My two favourites every year are Winter by The White Company and Snowflake Cookie by Yankee Candle, and this year I’m also obsessed with Bath & Body Works Pink Fairy Gum Drop. It’s just so pink and beautiful!

Once I’ve lit one or two of my favourite candles, it’s time to run my bubble bath. I tend to save my Lush products for weekends and days I’m feeling a little bit cr*p as I appreciate them even more then! My go-to bath bomb this Christmas is Snow Fairy as it smells incredible and creates the most picture perfect pink baths! A few of my other favourites for the season are the Polar Bear Plunge bubble bar, Luxury Lush Put bath bomb, Yog Nog bubble bar and Butterbear bath bomb… although Matt tends to steal all of the Butterbear’s we buy! I also love love love Dr Teal’s Lavender foaming bath which I’ve been using more and more as my regular bubble bath, the lavender scent is just so lovely and relaxing in the evening.

Whilst my bath is running, I take off my makeup with Clinique Take The Day Off cleansing balm and my flannel, then double cleanse with my Aveeno Positively Radiant cleanser. I love double cleansing!

By now my bath is ran, I have a can of Diet Coke (a must for any bath, I’m obsessed!) and it’s time to apply my face mask. The face mask I use totally depends on how my skin is on that day, so I don’t necessarily always use the same ones. My favourite go-to’s are the Pixi Glow sheet mask or The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow mask; both are incredible and are masks I’ve used for so long!

Post-face mask I wash my hair and apply The Body Shop Banana Truly Nourishing hair mask *gifted which I leave on my hair for at least thirty minutes. (I do this mask every other time I wash my hair and leave it on for around five minutes on a regular day when I don’t have tons of time!) This soaks into my hair and leaves it feeling so soft, tangle free and looking shiny as ever. It also smells amazing, kind of like banana milkshake, and I wish we had some kind of technology so you could smell it through my photo. Every single time I use this Matt compliments me on how good my hair smells, so it’s a boyfriend pleaser too!

Now it’s time to R E L A X and for me, that means opening up my current book and getting lost in another world. It’s my happy place! I just recently read Twas The Nightshift Before Christmas by Adam Kay, which is the sequel to one of my very favourite books I read this year. It was so funny and well written, I’d definitely stick it on your list for Father Christmas this year. I love long baths but I love even more having uninterrupted reading time. Matt has very kindly bought me a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas which I am SO excited about because it’s going to make my reading experience one hundred times better! He’s the best 🙂

My favourite shower gels of the moment are The Body Shop’s Juicy Pear *gifted by my lovely friend Shannen; more information here and Lush’s Yog Nog, I love them both so much I alternate pretty much every night! Festive scents are always my favourite, they are so fun to use and inject a little fun into my typical routine. I exfoliate using my beautiful The Body Shop Spa Of The World Brazilian Cupuaçu scrub-in-oil, before using my regular old Gillette Venus Platinum razor and shaving gel. I only exfoliate before shaving every other time (or every other, other time) but I always feels SO much better when I do. You really get a closer shave and it just makes my skin feels so incredible!

Post bath I take my time to go through my full skincare routine, run a little Morrocanoil Treatment Light through my hair and spray my Aussie Leave-In conditioner before wrapping my hair up in my hair towel wrap to dry and stay out of my face. I moisturise using my Hawaiian Kukui cream from The Body Shop which is so luxurious, although I think I really need something a little more moisturising to help my dry skin during the colder months. I love nothing more than getting cosy in my pj’s, my favourite fluffy dressing gown and Ugg slippers. Matt and I spend the rest of our evening snuggled up watching TV (which would ideally be a Christmas movie at this time of year but if football is on I can guarantee that’s what we’ll be watching!), cooking our dinner and just enjoying each others company. At some point I’ll quickly blow dry my hair – which after around an hour in the wrap is almost fully dry – and run my straighteners through it so it’s much easier to manage in the morning.

My Current Skincare Routine: Winter Edition

Hi, loves! Today’s post is one I’m so excited about because I really just wanted to talk about all the products I’m loving right now. I should start by saying that my skin is combination, and like most people’s it leans way more to the dry side during the Winter months. My skin is also dehydrated, and that’s something I’m really trying to treat. Overall I’m pretty happy with my skin right now, and I’ve learned it’s never going to be ‘perfect’ which is fine! I recently talked about the things I’ve learned from my experience with acne, and I think it’s so important that we stop being so hard on ourselves for not having perfect skin. Nobody has perfect skin, and that’s okay! Also I’m sure this may seem like a lot of products to some (and possibly very little to others) but this is just what works for me 🙂

I cleanse my face every morning with my Aveeno Positively Radiant cleanser which I absolutely love! This cleanser leaves my face feeling clean and is the perfect first step in the morning as it’s not at all harsh or stripping. It removes all of the skincare product residue from the night before easily and gently, and it has a really pleasant, light scent which I appreciate because I’m not a fan of highly fragranced cleansers. I really look forward to washing my face with this every morning!

Depending on how my skin is, I tone with Pixi Glow Tonic but I tend to only use this on the days my skin is feeling extra dry or if I have an active breakout/cystic acne. This is without a doubt my favourite toner as it is packed with glycolic acid which gently exfoliates your skin. I really think this makes a huge difference to the pores on my cheeks too, it definitely reduces the appearance of them and overall helps my skin look so much brighter. It literally makes you glow!

Whether I have or haven’t used my toner, my next step is always Hydraluron serum. As soon as the weather gets cold, my skin gets dry and dehydrated and this serum works to boost moisture levels in the skin, and hold on to all of the moisture from your moisturiser. If you’re struggling with dehydrated skin (a huge tell tale sign is your makeup breaking up/not lasting throughout the day) you should give this a go as it makes all the difference! It’s not a miracle worker and my skin is definitely still dehydrated, but it has improved so much since I started using this serum. I only use a pea sized amount across my whole face; it absorbs straight in and doesn’t feel tacky or sticky at all. Also, just an FYI, Caroline Hirons swears by this product so much it’s been coined Hironsluron by her loyal readers/viewers!

I’m not usually too fussed on which eye cream I use as I’ve never found a day time eye cream that makes much difference to me, but that all changed when I picked up La Roche Posay Hydraphase eye cream. I’ve been using this around two months and it feels so nice, absorbs into my under eye area quickly and is cooling which is lovely if your eyes can be a little puffy in the morning! My concealer always sits well on top of this which is also a bonus as I’ve tried several eye creams that pill under makeup and cause texture.

For my moisturiser I like to combine two products; I take a smidge of La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo and mix it with a bigger smidge of Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentré. So technical, I know! If I have a bad breakout I apply a little Effaclar Duo directly over the area, but most days I mix them together with my fingertips and apply all over my face. Effaclar Duo has been a staple in my skincare routine for years and it’s something I’ve always kept in my collection, but with consistent use it’s made such a difference to my skin. I love love love Lait Crème Concentré – which is one of the best selling French pharmacy skincare products ever – as it’s very hydrating, but sinks into the skin so well and is a perfect base under makeup. Makeup artists worldwide swear by this as a must have product in their kit, it also doubles as a primer which is great for travelling!

My favourite ever lip balm is hands down Nuxe Reve de Miel – made by another fantastic French pharmacy brand – I just cannot say enough good things about this! It’s creamy, moisturising, non-sticky and keeps my lips moisturised for hours. I use this morning and night, and I also keep my Nuxe Reve de Miel stick in my bag which I re-apply several times throughout the day. Matt is a huge fan of these lip balms too!

My favourite time of the day apart from snuggling up in bed with Matt is taking my makeup (and bra) off. As soon as I’m home for the evening I like to take off my makeup, get showered/bathed and throw my pj’s on, and then I’m cosy for the night! Over the past few weeks I’ve been reaching only for the Clinique Take The Day Off cleansing balm which is an old favourite of mine. This balm takes off every. single. scrap. of makeup on your face and doesn’t cause any irritation to my sensitive skin. I apply to my dry face, and massage in to start to break down my makeup. I then wet my fingers and carry on massaging in the balm, which turns to an oil-like consistency when water is added. I take my flannel soaked with warm water to remove everything. It literally takes less than a minute! I’m also a huge fan of these flannels from M&S; they’re inexpensive, wash so well and make the world of difference to my cleansing routine.

I always always always double cleanse – because Caroline Hirons told me to – and nine times out of ten I reach for my Aveeno Positively Radiant cleanser that I use each morning. I just love this stuff! It’s also very boyfriend friendly; I’m forever trying to get Matt into a set skincare routine and this is one of the few products he actually enjoys using.

Each night I tone my face with either Pixi Glow Tonic or Pixi Retinol Tonic on a cotton round. I choose which one to use based on my skin that day; if I’m suffering with an acne flare up or a bad breakout I reach for Glow tonic, and if I’m having a good skin day I reach for Retinol tonic. This is such a low dose of Retinol that it is safe to use every day, so I often use this several nights in a row, and I love how it makes my skin feel.

My next step is to apply The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid serum which is fantastic for dehydrated or dry skin! I personally prefer Hydraluron for during the day, but I love love love this product for the evening. I find this is a lot more runny in consistency and you have to be careful not to pump too much out, but it is such a bargain and really has made a difference to my skin. It leaves my skin feeling plump and hydrated, and is the perfect product to be sandwiched between cleansing and applying the rest of my skincare products.

If you’ve read my blog for a while you will know I am obsessed with The Body Shop’s Drops of Youth Bouncy Eye Mask and nothing will ever replace this for me! I’ve used this product for around two to three years and it is just so hydrating. I especially love that this eye cream is cooling on application and as it’s a gel-like texture it sinks straight in. I really love this eye cream and it’s a product several people have told me they tried because I rave about it so much… it’s so worth the hype, I promise!

Before I apply my my moisturiser, I use Pixi Glow Tonic serum followed by Botanics Restoring Overnight facial oil which is my perfect evening combination. The Pixi serum is just beautiful! I apply two to three drops across my whole face and it helps to exfoliate (like the toner) and hydrate. My skin always looks glowy and fresh after application, and if I ever skip this step I feel like my skin really pays for it the next day. The Botanics facial oil was something I picked up on a whim in Boots – we’ve all done it, right? – and it is the most luxurious facial oil I’ve ever used! I love the scent so much, it’s packed full of essential oils and is really calming. I am so impressed with the quality of the oil and I’d really advise anyone wanting a little luxury in their skincare routine to pick it up! One thing to note is that I don’t apply the oil to any areas affected with an active breakout!

My holy grail skincare product this time of year is Clinique Moisture Surge moisturiser, it’s truly the best hydrating moisturiser I’ve ever tried! I feel like it just layers so well on top of my serums and oil, and makes my skin feel so soft and plump. I love that it’s such a light texture but a little really does go a long way, and it is a great product if you have combination skin. It definitely doesn’t make my face feel or look oily, but it concentrates on any dry patches and just makes things so much more hydrated!

Just like I do in the mornings, I always finish off my evening skincare routine with my Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm. I generally tend to do my skincare routine early in the evening so I often apply several times more before I go to sleep, and I always put it on just before Matt and I get into bed.

I of course use various treatments – sheet masks are a personal fave – throughout the week/month, and I just see how my skin is doing and what it needs at that time. I love trying new beauty products but these days I’m slightly more hesitant to try new skincare products as I’m really happy with the ones I’m currently using! I would love to try more from the Botanics range though, and the Clinique Moisture Surge hydrating water gel has been on my ‘to try’ list forever! How To Keep It Together This Holiday Season

Hi, loves! We are one week away from December 1st, which for most of us marks the beginning of the busiest time of year. Date nights, dinner and drinks, Christmas markets, catch ups with friends you haven’t seen forever, a whole channel filled with Christmas movies you NEED to watch, last minute present shopping, work Christmas parties and approximately 483 other events are taking place this month, and somehow you’re expected to fit it all in. Not to mention you’ve still got to squeeze in the regular ol’ 9-5, quality time with your partner, grocery shopping, errands, sleeping, eating, seeing your family, exercising, preparing dinner, I’m A Celebrity, hobbies and there’s also probably a sh*t load of Christmas presents you need to wrap too. Phew. Anybody else exhausted just reading that?! ME. TOO. But, it doesn’t have to be as hectic as it seems. There’s lots of things we can do – aside from cutting out our favourite reality TV show – to make this time of year easier on ourselves, and actually really enjoy the festive fun!

Utilize your iPhone calendar. There’s no excuse for forgetting you already agreed to plans when you can plan every second of your life in your phone. *Note to self because I am still really bad at this!* A surefire way to ensure you don’t double book, turn up late or (even worse) arrive at the wrong place is to record every single plan you agree to in your calendar. I love to use my iPhone calendar specifically because it syncs to my MacBook and iPad therefore everything is easily accessible, and it can be colour coded for ease. I use my calendar throughout the year to plan blog content as well as write details of social plans, but Christmas is HECTIC and requires a little extra upkeep!

Write lists. For everything. The last thing you need to be stressing out about is if what you’ve forgotten to do/buy/organise etc. I can’t tell you how much I love writing a list (partly because crossing off what you’ve achieved is just fun to me) but it’s so. much. help. I have lists for everything and the holiday season is certainly no different! I have several gifting lists, tasks to be done, extra things to buy, places to visit etc – I just feel so organised when I know what’s to be checked off.

Eat good meals. Most of us link preparing super healthy meals to the Summer months, when pre-holiday your biggest concern is how you’ll look in your new bikini. But, let’s be real. It’s pretty common for most of us at the time of year to indulge in more chocolates than we usually would, try every festive flavoured drink in Costa and enjoy an alcoholic beverage with the occasional every meal, justified by the words “well, it’s Christmas”. Add in the fact it’s freezing cold outside and you’re almost definitely enjoying nights out without a coat (it’s not just a Northern thing, right?) the chances of you falling ill are pretty high, too. Being poorly at Christmas time sucks, so eating healthy, good-for-you meals during the day is a little way of self care and you’ll feel the benefits throughout the month. Pile your meals high with fruits and veggies and it makes all of the indulging you do a little bit more acceptable! Speaking of which…

Don’t be afraid to indulge yourself. When you are at home, make the most of it. Don’t worry too much about the non-essential things and instead really indulge in things that make you happy. For Matt and I, that’s cooking a good meal and chatting about our days then snuggling in to watch one of our favourite shows. We both find so much joy in binge watching The Office but I want to watch as many holiday movies as possible this year. Just don’t tell Matt, it’s a surprise! One of our favourite ways to unwind is a long soak in a bubble bath, and I love to read books so much. Also, despite my point above that we should try to eat healthy meals… I also am MORE than happy to eat any sweets, chocolates, shortbread, cookies etc that I want to! If we’re watching a cute Christmas movie we’re probably snacking on something, and that’s okay. It’s all about moderation.

Prioritise the things that are most important for you. The annual Christmas market trip with your love, a last minute Christmas shopping dash with your mum and a festive brunch with your best gal might be the three things that are top of your social plans this year, and that’s fine! Make sure you do the things you really want to do, and everything else will slot in where possible. It’s really important not to overload your social calendar as it will begin to feel like a chore, when really all of your festive plans should be fun and bring JOY!

Do not get slack on your skincare! Okay, maybe this is just an important one for me but I know if I take even one day away from my usual routine my face really bloody hates me for it. It’s super easy after a busy day to think you can skip a few steps but really, taking those five minutes for you will help you feel (and look) good. At the very least make sure to cleanse, tone and apply eye cream, serum and moisturiser each morning and night. I also would advise against trying new skincare products this time of year because with all of the Christmas induced stress, chances are your skin isn’t going to be it’s best anyway. I just know if I try *that* amazing moisturiser everyone is raving about I’ll develop a spot the size of Rudolph’s nose, so it’s just not worth the hassle.

Say no if you can’t make it work. There’s no reason to feel obliged to squeeze in that pub meet up with those friends you barely see ‘just because it’s Christmas’ if it doesn’t work for you. True friends will always understand that life is busy, and I’d really suggest giving alternative plans if what everyone else is doing doesn’t work for you. By the same token, if a friend isn’t able to make it to something you’ve planned or are attending, make sure to let them know it’s okay and they’ve got nothing to worry about. For example, I personally couldn’t think of anything worse than going to a club because I’m a #25yearoldgrandma, and that’s okay. We all have to set boundaries and the people who love us as we are will never make us feel guilty for that. I’m a sociable person, but kinda only with my people. We all just need to be mindful, especially at this time of year, that there is no obligation to join in on plans you can’t make work with your schedule.

Realising The Importance Of Unwinding

Happy Sunday, loves! Self care is something that is discussed in great detail, but it’s often linked directly to beauty treatments and pampering yourself. That’s not to say I don’t love a pamper night because – let’s be real, I DO! – and that’s something I make sure to incorporate into my life at least once per week, but I think there’s so many other ways you can hit that self care button and relax at the same time.

We live in a world where we’re so connected via iMessage and social media, and it’s really become difficult to let ourselves and our minds unwind. Most of us spend at least forty hours per week at work, and during that time our minds can be so wired and frantic with everything we need to get done we don’t allow ourselves time to stop. My blog is something I do in my ‘free’ time, but as I talked about in my October goals post, I was losing the barrier between ‘free’ time and any time I wasn’t at work. I felt like I needed to be constantly working on my blog whether it was writing posts, taking photos, editing photos, reading other blogs, trawling social media or just brainstorming ideas and it became so hard to let my mind escape and just enjoy being at home. I’ve been feeling extremely anxious over the past few months and it’s something I’m really struggling with right now. As a result, I’ve been trying to find all of the things that make me feel less anxious and focus on those, rather than trying to identify why I feel anxious in the first place!

Something Matt and I have prioritized more and more recently is unwinding each evening/weekend we aren’t at work. I often take a little time whilst he’s at work (either early morning, after I get home during the week or whilst he’s in on a weekend) to do all of my blog work, and I’m feeling way happier and less stressed out by giving myself some ‘me’ time back. I made a promise to both Matt and myself a long time ago that I’d not work on my blog whilst we were having chill time at home, and it’s really important to me that I stick to that.

I’m such a homebody at heart but Matt would often rather be out; we compromise on this by usually spending a little more time at home during the week, and a little more time out of the house doing fun things at the weekend. Being a homebody means I relish in all things cosy; candles, fuzzy blankets, comfy pj’s and dressing gowns are up there with my all time favourite items ever, and I just love every opportunity Matt and I get for a cosy night at home. Also, you don’t need to have a ton of time to enjoy the cosiness of being at home; often by the time we get home from work, cook and eat dinner, shower/bathe etc it could easily be 8pm! It’s about being intentional with the time you do have, and being able to roll your to-do list over to the next day.

Here’s a few little things I suggest doing at least a few times per week to help you unwind, relax and enjoy being at home.

Clean your space. I can’t really explain how or why, but I’m pretty sure a lot of people will agree with me on this one: when my space is clean, I feel happier. This is the same for my home and my car; I just need my environment to be welcoming and as clutter free as possible. I pick up our room several times per week which takes all of five minutes in the mornings, then I fully deep clean once per week. Putting on fresh sheets, hanging clothes away, vacuuming, dusting etc just makes the whole room feel more cosy and inviting, and it always makes me feel a small sense of accomplishment. We’re big believers in the fact a bedroom needs to be a happy, comforting space; it’s so important to allow yourself to fully rest at home!

Light a candle. Okay so I’m sure so many of you will already know this, but I’m obsessed with candles. Obsessed. I love love love the cosy pumpkin scents for Fall right now, and I’m genuinely concerned at how often I think about purchasing another. Ha! I feel so calm and at peace with candles burning and our pink Himalayan rock salt lamp on; it gives our bedroom the most beautiful warm pink glow and makes my heart happy.

Put down your phone. One of the best things you can do to unwind from work, friends, peers, a bad day etc is to just put down your phone. Leave it charging in another room or preferably another floor of the house and be in the moment. Matt and I always try to do this when we’re out for dinner too; so many times on date night you’ll see the couple more interested in their phones than each other. Other than maybe taking a quick snap of our food we don’t put the focus on our phones. We’re really working on not having our phones in bed at all; every night we were brushing our teeth, getting cosy in bed, then sitting on our phones for at least ten minutes just scrolling through our socials. It’s gross how attached we all our to our phones; as much as I love technology, I sometimes really despise it too!

Listen to music or a podcast. Our Amazon Echo Dots are some of our most favourite ever items we own, and we make use of them every single day! We sleep with Alexa Sleep Sounds on every night (we alternate between Matt’s favourite, ocean sounds, and my favourite, thunderstorm sounds) and it’s truly made a difference to how we sleep. We sometimes play music whilst we tidy up or get ready in the mornings, and it’s just a fun way to occupy ourselves that doesn’t involve being on our phones. I also listen to podcasts almost every time I’m driving (it’s either a podcast or Disney music, there’s no in-between!) and I find them such a fun addition to my day.

Head for a breakfast/dinner date. Going for breakfast is hands down one of Matt and I’s favourite hobbies. Breakfast food is our favourite, it’s generally way less crowded, and we still have the whole rest of our day to get a bunch of things done. We also love dinner dates because getting dressed up together, having a few glasses of wine and making the most of date night is such a treat to us! I think it’s so important to take time for food dates with your partner, your friends and your family – both Matt and I’s families love to go out for meals and it’s something I really am grateful for.

Take a hot bath. The ultimate self care treat for me personally is a hot bubble bath. Pile in your favourite Lush products, light an aromatherapy candle and allow yourself to disconnect from the world for thirty minutes at least an hour. A bubble bath can seriously make up for any crap work day, and you’ll never regret taking time out of your day for that. I’ll be sharing my favourite self care Sunday pamper routine on the blog in a few weeks!

Snuggle up with a cup of tea and your book. Ah, a book and a cuppa… that is my idea of bliss. If we’re having a lazy weekend morning in bed Matt likes to watch various football shows on Amazon Prime (he’s currently watching Sergio Ramos documentary which is all in Spanish… I mean…) and I’m so happy to curl up with my iPad and read before we get ready for the day. I also am a huge fan of sleepy time teas before bed; they really do make you feel a little more relaxed and ready for sleep, and reading a book is a great way to unwind before bed. Matt is not a reader at all which hurts my heart a little bit, but I just keep telling hime he hasn’t found the right books yet!

Watch your favourite shows. Is there anything better than snuggling up with your love and watching the series you’re both invested in? No, there is not! Matt and I often watch several shows at a time, and then incorporate the odd movie or documentary into that too. Strictly Come Dancing is my thing, so by default Matt is often stuck watching it too. He is a huge football fan, so that’s his vice and another thing we watch SO much. We love comedy shows; Brooklyn 99 was our favourite, we’ve seen Friends one hundred times and right now The Office is our ‘easy watch’ obsession. We love love love documentaries (Stacey Dooley’s are a personal favourite, obvs) and shows like Ambulance: Australia make us very happy. We change things up pretty much every evening, but it’s such a nice time to chill and chat with each other too.

Weekend In My Life

Happy Sunday, loves! Today is… by popular demand… another Weekend In My Life! My last WIML post was uploaded just a few weeks ago, but I seriously get the cutest comments on these posts and you guys really seem to enjoy reading them! I might make this a regular thing, where every month I share just one weekend with you all? Maybe in place of a Feelin’ It Friday as I’ve just recently cut way back on them? Please let me know your thoughts on this as I really just want to make content you guys want to read, too!

This was a rare weekend Matt and I had a full 48 hours off work together to do whatever the heck we wanted, and we we were SO happy about it. We had lots of ideas for things to do but we were also very kind to ourselves as we’d had a super busy week and were feeling kinda exhausted. We still got so much done, had a ton of fun and enjoyed spending our time together so much! For the first time maybe ever we didn’t really plan our weekend out, and just went with the flow. I’m so thankful for a fun and relaxing weekend 🙂 Matthew, I love you so much!

Friday 20th September

I was awake from 5am on Friday as I had horrendous period cramps that were making me feel physically sick! I stayed in bed and just cuddled into Matt (who was flat out, jammy bugger!) for what seemed like hours, then I was just drifting off to sleep before our alarm went off… does this ever happen to anyone else? It’s the worst feeling! I really struggled getting ready for work, especially as Matt got to stay curled up in bed. I kissed him goodbye and headed to work for a busy Friday, although my co-worker Keli and I did get to share Domino’s for lunch which was the best surprise treat 🙂

I definitely should have taken a photo before we dived in. HAHA

The day was over in a flash, and after a crazy busy week I was so happy to see 5pm! I drove home listening to Small Town Murder – I was obsessed with this podcast for the longest time then stopped listening as much, now I can’t get enough! I really recommend if you like comedy and/or true crime podcasts – then caught up on some of my YouTube subscriptions whilst I cleaned our bedroom and put fresh sheets on. Fresh bedding is one of Matt and I’s favourite ever things; we just love the feeling of getting into a nice comfy bed after a long day! I re-organised my underwear drawer and had another mini clearout which was much needed, and I got to put in my pretty new underwear that had just arrived. Keli and I made an order on Boux Avenue from their sale and seriously, the deals were SO good. I love the two new sets I bought, they’re just so pretty (and comfy)!

I still had cramps and all I could think about was relaxing in a nice hot bath. Matt was working late so I took the time for a little pamper night; exfoliating, shaving (pretty much) every inch of my body and doing a hair mask! I lay in the bath for so long reading my magazines and it was bliss, I really enjoy when I have the time to relax in the bath for a long time. I took my time doing my skincare routine (spoiler: a post is coming on my routine next month!), putting oil in my hair and covering myself in my favourite body cream, then as I still had over an hour until Matt was home I began to re-organise our wardrobes. Again. I’m kinda obsessed with doing it, I can never decide how I want things to be!

The jury is still out on this hair towel wrap… they’re supposed to make your hair super soft and help it to dry before you have to blow dry it, but I’ve been using it for around two months now and haven’t seen much of a difference. I got a two pack and I kinda think one makes a difference but one doesn’t. Do you use these? Do you love them?! Maybe I’m using them wrong!

Matt got home work around 9.30pm and we snuggled in to eat chicken tenders and watch The Office, then we remembered we had Halo Top in the freezer. Guys. The salted caramel Halo Top is THE BEST ice cream in the entire world. Seriously!! We had a super early night (I was exhausted from being awake from 5am) so we played thunderstorm sounds on Alexa and snuggled in for the night. Do you use Sleep Sounds? What’s your favourite? I am obsessed with the thunderstorm sounds and Matt loves the ocean sounds, so we alternate pretty much every night!

Saturday 21st September

We woke up pretty early on Saturday and it was so nice to feel rested! I had a much better sleep and was so excited to get up and moving for the day. After taking our time to wake up a little we got ready and popped in to Matt’s parents house. His mum was at work so we saw his dad for a little while then headed straight to the Metro Centre. I really appreciate shopping days where we just eat, wander around, browse the shops and pick up a few goodies, and this was exactly what we did. We got there right at 12pm so went for lunch at Wagamama, it was delish! Matt and I shared duck pancakes to start, and he finally caved to order what I always get – a number 45; teriyaki soba noodles with sirloin steak (I get with no onion/coriander) – and we were so happy with our choice. The service at the Gateshead branch is always fantastic and we really love going there for lunch, it’s just so relaxed and not super busy.

We did a lot of browsing but not a lot of shopping which was a little disappointing to be honest! I bought a few new makeup items at MAC which will literally last me a whole year (an on-the-go powder, my old favourite Fall/Winter blush in Desert Rose and a pretty new lipstick in the shade Jubilee). I was so disappointed to be told that MAC are discontinuing the Next To Nothing powder, it is my favourite for touch ups! If they had more than one in my shade (Light Plus) I would have bought them all as back ups. This one will last so long, but please let me know what your favourite compact powder is! My skin is oily and acne prone so makeup slides off my face throughout the day. It’s wonderful 🙂 Matt really wanted to pick up a Ted Baker sweater he’d seen online but it wasn’t available in store. Luckily he managed to snag it for a really good discounted price online. It arrived in the mail this week and it’s so nice! We bought some of my dad’s birthday presents and I also used my Boots points to purchase Clinique’s Bare Pop lipstick, it’s the perfect Fall shade and I already love it so much.

After shopping Matt had to pop into work for twenty minutes so I got cosy in the car and watched my YouTube subscriptions while he was gone. I’m still obsessed with Jade Billington’s videos, obviously. We then headed to Costco which is quite honestly one of our favourite places! We seem to end up visiting every time we have a weekend with no specific plans. The samples were SO GOOD this time! We ate spicy sausages, Chinese noodles, avocado on sourdough, and our ultimate favourite… red velvet cake. Basically we had a second lunch. We also found our dream Christmas Tree for our Dream Mansion. We can always hope for a lottery win!

We headed back to Matt’s parents house to relax and watch the beginning of the NUFC game, then got showered and freshened up for the evening. We went for dinner at Fratelli’s in Ponteland with Matt’s parents and his grandma (we really love this place!) and had the most amazing meals. I’m so obsessed with their Pinot Grigio blush, it’s delicious!! Tip: wine tastes better with ice cubes. Always. Matt thinks his mum and I are so weird for liking it like that, hahaha. We had the most perfect night, I love love love nights with Matt’s family, they’re so good to us! We left kinda early and snuggled in at home with more wine. We slept like freaking babies this night, hahaha.

Sunday 22nd September

Sunday we slept in a little (like I said, we slept like BABIES). Snuggly mornings at home are some of our favourites, and we really don’t get chance to have them very often! We drank cups of tea and watched the news with Matt’s parents – I wish we hadn’t, the news is literally ALL doom and gloom! – before getting ready for the day. I watched a little more of my YouTube subscriptions whilst doing my makeup, I swear I’m forever playing catch up because there’s just not enough hours in the day to watch my favourite vlogs!

How freaking CUTE is he?! I just seriously love him so much. We jumped in the car and headed to one of our favourite Sunday morning locations… Tynemouth market. We hadn’t been for a while but it was nice to just wander round, look at all the cool things for sale (some of it is complete tat, I can’t lie!) and grab some food. It was almost lunch time so we went for Greek food; we got chips, chicken and a whole load of sauces/spices, it was so yummy. Afterwards, Matt suggested we go for a little wander around Tynemouth’s town and we took some blog photos which you may have seen in this post from Wednesday. I’m so grateful my sweet boyfriend is always so happy to take photos and take the time to get some I actually like. He’s so so good to me and I appreciate him so much!

We jumped back in the car and drove the coastal route home. All the way along the drive we could see St. Mary’s Lighthouse ahead of us, and decided to just pop in for a little look around. We haven’t been since we were kids and it was just nice to go somewhere a little bit different! It was pretty chilly and I was so thankful I had threw my cosy cardigan in the car, haha. We wandered a little on the rocks, went all the way up to the lighthouse then walked back to the car. I was a little nervous because the thought of the tide coming in and stranding us there is not my idea of fun!

It was so. freaking. windy.

It was forecast for really bad rainstorms for the afternoon and (although these photos don’t really show it) it was starting to get super hazy and dark out to sea, so we decided it was best to leave before the rain came. We visited with my grandma which was so nice, we haven’t seen her for a few weeks and she was really happy to see us. We headed home to catch some of the Man U game with my parents, then Matt got fixed up to head out for a few drinks with the boys. They mainly went to watch the football so he was only gone a couple of hours, and I took the time to write a little for the blog and get ahead for the week, and of course to have a Lush bath which was SO needed. I was half way through catching up on Strictly Come Dancing and editing blog posts when he came home so we snuggled in to watch the rest of the show whilst dinner cooked. We ate burritos, watched a few episodes of The Office and then watched Mamma Mia (definitely not Matt’s choice. LOL) before getting an early night in ready for the work week to roll back around.

An Honest Chat: Body Image

Hey, loves. I was inspired to write today’s post as I was watching the Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out documentary, and one I feel like I’ve written, re-written and edited so many times. If you haven’t seen the documentary and are based in the UK, you can catch it here. I’m not sure if it’s being shown worldwide, but you may also be able to catch it on YouTube. Matt and I watched the documentary with his parents on the night it aired and we were all so moved by the stories told; I cried and felt so much empathy towards Jesy, and I also related so much to many of the things she and the other people said throughout the documnetary.

Jesy Nelson is one fourth of Little Mix; the UK’s biggest girl band right now; and she is someone that you just see everywhere. She is a household name with a large social media presence along with the other three members of the band. Her face is on the side of buses and billboards around the world, and Little Mix’s songs are played in pretty much every store you walk into. They have a high presence in the charts, so are always played on the radio, and their songs are super catchy. They’re often on TV, taking part in interviews and, from an outsider’s perspective, it looks like they’re all living their best lives. I wouldn’t say I am necessarily a fan of Little Mix’s music, but I’ve always admired what they have achieved and how much girl power they bring to a historically male dominated industry.

As a young girl watching their original X Factor auditions back in 2011, I would say that at times I might have felt a little jealous throughout their success! All four girls always looked so happy, they were travelling all over the world and their lives completely changed overnight, which should have been the dream. That’s literally what little girls dream of; it was like a real life version of the Cheetah Girls, hah! Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out shone a new light on this time, and the experience that Jesy herself had in her sudden fame. All of those times that she looked so happy, she wasn’t. All of the times that she looked like she was living her best life, she wasn’t. The main reason being that she was bullied, victimized and trolled over her weight and her body. She saw messages every single day calling her ‘fat’ and telling her to lose weight. She began to pick herself apart more and more, then sadly when she did lose weight (which she didn’t need to) she was still trolled for being ‘fat’.

It was disgusting to hear just a handful of things that Jesy was told every single day, and she shared in the documentary that she wanted to commit suicide to get away from everything. That is heartbreaking; a young girl who should have been living her dream felt like she was living her nightmare, all because of how other people made her feel. She began to hate her own body and therefore tried to hide it away, and now she struggles to watch any video of herself at the start of her career because of the way she looked then. But, Jesy’s documentary was so powerful because she rose above it. She shared her story. She came out the other side. SHE MOVED ON. Jesy was never overweight; she looked like a healthy, normal girl then and she looks like a healthy, normal girl now. So many young girls of all shapes, sizes and builds looked up to her then and still do, and I can’t help but wonder how they’re feeling right now. Jesy met with many young people on the documentary who had experienced a similar thing; they had all been bullied because of the way they look and began to hate their own bodies.

Bullying is a whole different topic that is not really what I want to dive into in this post, but it did make me think about the way we talk about body image in general, and why people think it’s okay to comment on how others look. Magazines use photos of celebrities, just like Jesy, who have often been photographed unknowingly, sometimes in unflattering positions, with headlines like “is *insert name* eating for two?” Or “*insert name*’s crash diet has taken a nose dive” (Yep, they’re genuine articles). Even if a celebrity – or anybody else – has put weight on, it’s nobody else’s business and should never be topic of conversation! The media are known for being harsh, critical, unfair, unjust and downright rude in many circumstances. They want to sell their magazines and newspapers and they never once thought about how those people may feel reading that. This kind of culture has then led to regular people thinking those kind of comments are okay in everyday life. They are not. Whether we’re gossiping with our friends, writing it on social media or even thinking it in our head; it is wrong. It’s time that we took a stand; for each other and for ourselves.

I was thirteen years old when I first looked in the mirror and thought “I look fat”. I don’t know where it came from, thankfully it had not come from someone else, but from then I began to look at my body in a different way. When I started high school in year nine, many of the girls already had boobs and hips, and I didn’t really have either. At some point during that school year, I developed hips that I then began to loathe for the next twelve years. Up until I’m writing this post, to be honest. After growing up in an oversaturated media-filled world, I thought you were either one body type or the other: ‘skinny’ or ‘fat’. I felt ‘fat’ because my hips were wide and stuck out awkwardly, and it made me have a big bum which I’d never had before. But, I didn’t have boobs. In my head, I was ‘skinny’ on the top, and ‘fat’ on the bottom. How crazy is that for a thirteen year old?! Or to be honest, any age.

I spent my teens trying out fad diets, comparing my figure to my friends and celebrities, restricting what I ate, hiding my body sometimes, showing it off other times and finding a love of yoga that’s grown with me. I took every opportunity to whinge to my friends, and to myself, about how I didn’t look good in *insert clothing item*. They did the same, and I think that’s a large part of how we bonded back then. It was just normal to be unhappy with how you looked and I never realised how damaging it is to your happiness. In my opinion social media played a huge part in this; comparing ourselves to other girls was just part of a regular day. I grew up in a time where social media was just finding its feet; I had Piczo and Bebo, then opened Facebook and Twitter accounts, before finally jumping onto the Instagram bandwagon. We competed for likes and other people’s validation that we looked good, and for many of us it was, and maybe still is, an unhealthy place to be. Social media does not have to be a dangerous or unsafe place; I personally love to use Instagram to connect with people, to see new places, to admire photography, to find other bloggers and so much more. Social media can be a happy place, you just have to learn to protect yourself.

I didn’t actually realise how obsessed I was with my body image until I started to put on weight in my twenties. By the time I had turned seventeen, I was ‘skinny’ but still had big hips and no boobs, which I had to just take some kind of pride in. I felt validated when people told me I looked “so skinny” or “tiny” and it stayed like that for a long time, but as soon as I started to notice weight gain last year I freaked out. I started to have conversations all the time with Matt and my mum about how gross I felt, and constantly compared pictures from when I was ‘skinny’. I knew why my body was changing; I changed my pill and my hormones went crazy. I also have got older and I’m sure my metabolism is changing. My diet isn’t always the greatest and if I want ice cream, cookies, chocolate or gummy bears, you can bet I’m going to eat them! Recently I just changed my pill again and was half expecting to wake up one morning with my old body, but that’s just not how life works. Or hormones.

I might not look like I did in my late teens and early twenties but right now, today, I’m proud of my body. No, I don’t always love every part of it. No, I don’t always treat it how I should. No, I don’t always feed it how I should. But, my body allows me to live; I get to spend time with my boyfriend, family and friends, I get to drive my car, I get to go to work, I get to go shopping, I get to do yoga, I get to travel. My body is healthy. And from gaining a little weight I’ve suddenly developed actual boobs, which is always a bonus, right? Matt tells me every day that he thinks I’m beautiful and instead of thinking about something I dislike about myself, I’ve started to accept his compliments. I’m even starting to believe them!

It’s time we change the dialogue we use, and we need to start from within. Body image and body confidence go hand in hand. Let’s stop paying attention to the size of our clothes. Let’s stop finding validation from what society thinks is acceptable. Let’s stop beating ourselves up. Let’s start loving and accepting ourselves. Let’s start dressing for ourselves. Let’s start empowering other women and complimenting each other. You are beautiful, and I hope sharing my story has made you feel somewhat comfortable with your story. Did you ever feel so critical of your body? Maybe you still are, but I hope you find your way to self acceptance and love so soon, we’re all in this together.

A Mini Lush Haul ft. The Halloween Collection

Hi, loves! Lush is one of my favourite ever brands, and I’m kinda obsessed with them and everything they do for the beauty world. I definitely buy way more products during the Autumn/Winter months because I love the themed products, and I take way more baths during this time of year. Bath bombs and bubble bars are my favourite treats, and Matt secretly loves a Lush bath too. Well, I guess not so secretly now, hah! I am so impressed by this year’s Halloween collection, they brought back some favourites and introduced new products that made my heart happy. I also had held on to a gift card from my lovely co-workers to spend this time of year, so I kinda went a little crazy picking things up. Almost everything I got was from the Halloween collection, but I did pick up a tried and tested favourite and a product I LOVE but didn’t realise was now part of the main collection!

Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar | £4.95
This is a Halloween product I buy every year, and despite how much I hate the glitter on this (it goes EVERYWHERE) it’s such a fun bubble bar! I break it into four pieces to get four baths out of it; your money goes much further with the bubble bars compared to one use products like the bath bomb. This turns your bath the most beautiful orange colour and smells gorgeous. Also, thankfully the glitter doesn’t stick to your body once you get out of the bath!

Lord Of Misrule Bath Bomb | £4.50
I love love love this bath bomb so much that I picked up two, and I’m already planning to pick up more. It has popping candy in it! Another product I buy every year, and stock up on once they begin to phase out the Halloween products, this is just a dream. This bath bomb turns your bath the most amazing dark colour perfect for Halloween; the green and pink mix together to make a dark purple and there’s glitter throughout, but not the kind of glitter that sticks to you. Your bath sparkles and shimmers and it’s a bath you’ll seriously never want to get out of. Matt and I always buy my mum this bath bomb as part of her birthday present (her actual birthday is on Halloween!)

Pumpkin Spice Lip Scrub | £6.50
I was so excited about this, and trust me, it did NOT disappoint! I didn’t even smell this in the store, I just picked up one and put it straight in my basket. If you know, you know. This is the perfect pumpkin spice scent; it’s got hints of cinnamon and nutmeg, and of course pumpkin, which is just lovely to use. I really have to stop myself from licking it off my lips each time I use it! Matt’s a big fan of this too; Lush’s lip scrubs are amazing at getting rid of dead skin and allowing your lip balm to fully do its job. I always use this in the evenings, and I’ve started to use it most mornings too as it makes my lip product for that day apply so much better. This lip scrub is a must have for the colder Fall weather!

Mercury Retrograde Bath Bomb | £4.95
This is – I believe? – new for 2019, and although I haven’t yet tried it I’m so excited to. It smells citrus-y yet cinnamon-y (great descriptions, I know #blogger) all at the same time, which is two scents I wouldn’t have previously put together, but it somehow works. I’m so interested to see what colour this will turn my bath as it has orange, green and purple in it, as well as little black

Punkin Pumpkin Bath Bomb | £4.95
A pumpkin bath bomb that smells like pumpkins? I AM IN. Like, that’s my idea of heaven. This is a delight; it’s aesthetically pleasing – hello, prop for all Autumn themed blog photos – smells incredible and makes for a wonderful bath time treat. I’m so excited to try this one out, and I think I’ll mix it with a little of the Sparkly Pumpkin bubble bar for all the Halloween feels. Also, the description on the website for this made my day, it’s a parody of This Is Halloween! Snapple fact: I know all of the words to that song – doesn’t everyone? – and sing it to Matt probably five times per day around this time of year. He loves hates it. 🙂

Sleepy Body Lotion | £9.00
Pretty much every time I shop in Lush I re-stock on this lotion, I just love it! This is my everyday go-to evening moisturiser, and it just works SO well. The only other moisturisers I’ve reached for over the past few months is this in-shower moisturiser if I’m having a super lazy moment or this amazing cream for a pamper night. Lush’s Sleepy body lotion genuinely works to relax your body and mind before going to bed; it’s calming and the lavender smell is so beautiful. I’ve said this before on my blog; I’m not the biggest fan of lavender but this scent is amazing. When Matt has had a super long day at work (he’s on his feet all day long) he loves a foot massage with this, too! He’s spoilt, haha. The smallest amount goes such a long way, and it’s a product I genuinely look forward to using each evening.

So White Bath Bomb | £3.95
Okay so this baby was the curveball. I was SO HAPPY to find out this bath bomb is now available all year round! So White has been one of my favourite Christmas bath bombs for years, one that I stock up on each holiday season, and one that is now part of the main collection?! I don’t know when it happened and I’m probably super late to the party, but it’s seriously one of the best ever! Sticking with the Snow White theme, it smells like apples and rose, and is truly one of the most relaxing, comforting scents. It turns your bath milky white (although it used to turn it green, I think? I’m pretty sure it had green and pink inside a few years ago!) I only picked up one but Matt and I both love this one, next time we’re in store we’ll definitely be getting a few more to add to our collection!

Decluttering 101: The Wardrobe Edit

Hi, loves! A few weeks ago Matt was working all weekend and I took a whole day to clear the heck out of the wardrobes. When he left for work I immediately pulled out a whole rail of clothing so I couldn’t decide not to do it, and the second he got home from work I rushed him upstairs to see all my hard work, ha! I owned so many clothes, but not many brought me joy, and I was feeling a little deflated every time I looked in my wardrobes to try put an outfit together. Matt is so good at buying high quality items he loves that last him for years, and up until the past year that wasn’t something I did. I bought any old junk just because I thought it would come in handy and I also had some weird emotional attachment to my old clothing. Realistically I had a wall of wardrobes full to the brim, yet I constantly felt like I had nothing to wear. I shop smarter now but I really needed a clear canvas to work with; I just wanted to love everything I owned and so decided a major purge was on the cards!

I feel SO GOOD now about getting ready in the mornings or evenings, and I’m so happy I decided to bite the bullet and spend six hours – yes, really – working on this. Putting outfits together is way more fun (and easier), and I know what gaps I have in my wardrobe for things to purchase moving into Autumn, so my shopping list has pretty much wrote itself. I may have already began purchasing my Autumn clothing… I’m just so excited! My wardrobes look so much better and are properly organised, and Matt has a little more room now too which makes me so happy. Hopefully in the next year or so we’ll have our own house but for now we’re so happy and grateful with our set up; for anyone that doesn’t know we live between our family houses whilst we save for our own home. Matt and I know how lucky we are to be able to do this; we get to be together every night – which is just the best thing, I love him so much! – and our family’s love having us there with them, (or so they tell us, haha). We tend to spend more evenings at my family’s house due to Matt’s shifts, so I really wanted to make more space for Matt in our wardrobes. In this post I’m sharing my recommended tips and tricks for a major declutter, but where to start? First of all, turn on Netflix to watch all of Tidying Up With Marie Kondo. Then read this blog post on why I love her so much. Then, you’re about ready to go:

Clear out one section at a time
This is the only thing I disagree with in Marie Kondo’s teachings. She advises to dump out everything in one go, but I feel like that’s a little too overwhelming for me personally, and I’d rather be able to take a break if/when needed; I don’t think a clear out has to be done in one sitting if you don’t want to. I think it’s better to look at your clothing in one category at a time, maybe even sub-categories depending how much you own, as I find it easier to focus on one thing at a time. (I don’t know why because in regular everyday life I’m doing thirty things at once!) I also like this method because I prefer to re-organise where things are kept as I go; this time I put all of my t-shirts, short sleeves, camis etc high up in my wardrobe, and moved long sleeved t-shirts, blouses, thin knit sweaters etc to the bottom. It’s easier to place things in your wardrobe in a way that makes sense to you as you’re getting dressed or picking outfits out to pack, and once you start the process it becomes much easier.

Clean out all shelving, drawers and rails as you go
Do not leave ANYTHING in your wardrobe as you clear out. Nothing at all. You might know you love that plaid shirt you always wear or the grey jumper you just bought, but you still need to see each piece to make sure you’re keeping only things you love. If you have similar clothing pieces – how many white blouses does one gal need? – this is also a good time to cull the ones you don’t reach for very often. I also take the time whilst everything is off the shelf, out of the drawer or off the rail to fully clean and wipe down. Method’s all purpose cleaner is brilliant for this, I’m still obsessed with the Wild Rhubarb scent!

Make three piles per category: donate, keep and sell
The one basic of a wardobe clear out is always to make these three piles, right? This is also great when you’re working by category (or, sub category if you’re super type A *raises hand*) as you can put away your keep piles as you go, and organise your donating/selling piles easier.

Identify any items you feel like your wardrobe is missing
Maybe you are changing your style up, maybe you’ve thrown out or donated all of your jeans because you realised you didn’t like any, or maybe you just realised a few basics that were missing from your wardrobe, but take this as the opportunitory to take inventory. As I mentioned in this post, I found a few obvious gaps where I was lacking in my wardrobe and made a list (of course, I LOVE a list) of things to pick up over the next few months. This makes it much easier when shopping, as you begin to shop intentionally and to choose things that go with what you already own.

Be ruthless: if it doesn’t bring you joy you don’t need it
I used to be very sentimental with my clothes but I’m really not anymore, I feel like if it doesn’t benefit me and I don’t feel good wearing it there’s no need to keep it anymore. Goodbye, size 6 jeans. I think a really good rule of thumb for this is asking yourself “if you were shopping in a store right now, would you buy X?” If the answer is no, you don’t need it in your wardrobe because it obviously doesn’t bring you joy. Also, do not keep hold of items that once fit you but now don’t! It will make you miserable seeing them every day, life’s just too short.

Give every item a home
One of the biggest problems I found with my wardobes being messy is that not everything had it’s own home, therefore when things were ‘out of place’ there was nowhere for them to go. Storage bins are great for miscellaneous items that are otherwise hard to store, like scarves! I rolled all of my scarves and stores them in a storage bin which means I can see them all at a glance and pick one out so much easier.

Remove seasonal pieces that won’t be worn in the next six months
If you don’t have a lot of space in your wardrobe(s), then you need to make sure you utilise it wisely. If you still struggle for space after your clear out, I’d recommend storing your Spring/Summer specific clothing during the Autumn/Winter months, and vice versa, to limit your wardrobe looking like a clothing explosion. If you have underbed storage or a loft, that will probaly work best. Buy large sealable bins to make sure your clothes don’t get damp in a loft space, just make sure you don’t forget they’re there. I actually no longer need to do this as I have enough space to store everything at once since my clear out which makes me very happy!

Maintain your organisation
Consistency is key, after all. As tempting as it can sometimes be to say you’ll put your clean clothes away at a later date/time, just do it there and then. You worked hard to clear everything out, and you owe it to yourself to maintain your efforts. It also takes literally five minutes, so you have no excuse! Having a ‘one in, one out’ system when buying new items is a great way to ensure you don’t need to have a clear out of the same scale again, but I’d definitley recommend reviewing your wardrobe every 3-6 months to make tweaks here and there.

Now… relax. Grab a cup of tea. Admire your hard work!

Self Care Practices To Incorporate Into Your Everyday Life

Hey, loves! As I mentioned in Friday’s post, I’ve really had one of those weeks. I’ve felt a bit crap, and as a result I’ve been thinking a lot about the ways I try to carve out a little self care time each day, and focus on the things that keep me feeling good even on those terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days. Name that movie. As I mentioned in a recent post I’ve made August an unofficial self-care month for me, and I’d love for you to join in too! Let’s get used to taking a little extra time for ourselves, no matter how busy we are. Today I’m sharing with you the things I try to do most days (or at least several times per week) to practice self care.

Practice yoga (or at least stretch)
It’s not realistic to assume we all have a spare hour or even half an hour each day to prioritise yoga, or whichever exercise you prefer. However, ten minutes is something we should all able to achieve – whether it means turning the TV off ten minutes before bed or getting up ten minutes earlier – it feels so good to stretch out your body. My favourite morning stretch routine for when I don’t have much time is this practice from Yoga With Adrienne, it always makes me feel refreshed and ready to start the day.

Eat food that’s good for you
When you’re eating healthy food your body feels refreshed, and so does your mind. Matt and I eat healthy veggie filled dinners most nights, and we try to eat healthy when possible. We definitely don’t restrict ourselves; if we want to eat something we’ll definitely enjoy it, it’s just about creating a balance. Getting our five a day is so important, and although there’s way less emphasis on it in the media now, I think we could all use a reminder!

Enjoy at least ten minutes of peace and quiet each day
Having a little time alone just to be is good for the soul. I’m an introvert, and until Matt and I got together two years ago, I’d have opted to spend time alone than with others any day of the week. Now, of course I’d rather spend every possible second with Matt, but it’s still important to appreciate time alone too. Whether it’s relaxing in a hot bath during the evening or whilst I’m doing my makeup before work, I just enjoy being with only my thoughts for a little while.

Keep the space around you clean, tidy and clutter-free
I am the kind of person that needs the space around me to be clean and tidy anyway, but it truly makes you feel so much more calm and relaxed when everything is in order and put away in it’s place. I like to de-clutter Matt and I’s space pretty often, and it’s freeing to not hold on to rubbish you don’t need! Our bedroom is always smelling fresh and looking tidy, and coming home each night to our own little sanctuary is so calming and refreshing. I’m also the same with my car, I can’t bare it being dirty or cluttered inside, I just very rarely clean the outside.

Treat yourself to regular pamper sessions
Whether it’s getting your gels refreshed or visiting your favourite salon for a fresh colour and cut, set aside time (and money) to enjoy it. I love days where I’m getting my hair or nails done SO much, it just makes me feel happier. Of course you don’t have to go to salons to treat yourself, because at-home spa and pamper evenings can be just as wonderful. Indulge in a bubble bath and throw a face mask on, and never let yourself feel guilty for doing so. It’s important to unwind and relax, and it’s very true that when you look good, you feel good on the inside too. Matt and I love a pamper night!

Make gratitude lists
Feeling grateful is one thing, but writing down what you’re grateful for changes your perspective on everything. It’s so easy to get bogged down with mundane life stuff, but just acknowledging the good things in your life can make you see everything so differently. I’ve wrote three posts this year, logging things I’m grateful for each day – you can catch up here, here and here – and I couldn’t recommend that enough. Whether you’re a blogger looking for a content idea or you just want to list what you’re grateful for privately, it’s amazing to see your blessings right in front of you. I keep a list in the Notes app in my phone, and man does it help me to keep positive.

Live in the moment
I admit that I am SO bad for not enjoying the day/hour/second right there and then, because I’m thinking about what’s coming up. Whether I’m stressing about something happening or I’m super excited for something fun, I find I’m always counting down to the Next Thing. I’m actively trying to enjoy where I’m at in the moment, and it’s making life so much more fun! …but it’s okay to have things to look forward to. Matt and I always have a trip planned, whether it’s a holiday or a weekend getaway, because we love travelling SO much and that’s where we want to put our energy. We just love getting away and exploring somewhere new! Similarly, date nights keep us sane and get us through long work weeks, and we always plan those in advance. Get plans in your diary to catch up with your friends too, they may need it more than you do!

Be active, and enjoy nature while you’re at it
Matt and I are SO LUCKY to live where we do; there’s beautiful beaches, rolling countryside and our favourite city, Newcastle upon Tyne, all just twenty minutes drive from us. We are always trying to get outside more and enjoy whatever is around us, and we’re also very lucky that we experience all four seasons here too! Well, Summer is questionable LOL.

Unwind in a way that makes you happy
Getting cosy under a fluffy blanket with our favourite candles flickering, snuggling up with Matt to watch Netflix is without a doubt my favourite pastime. We do this in some aspect every evening, even if it’s only to watch one quick episode of our favourite show (Brooklyn 99 is life, you guys!) and it feels so good to relax at home. Being curled up with Matt makes me so happy, and it’s something I look forward to from the minute we get out of bed each morning! I also love to blog, binge watch reality shows (The *original* Hills and KUTWK are always my go-to shows), online shop/browse, cook, catch up on my YouTube subscriptions, read books, take bubble baths… whatever it is for you; do more of it.

Don’t beat yourself up
The best self care tip of all is to not be too hard on yourself, because everyone is doing the best they can. You don’t need to compare yourself to others, or what you think you should have/want in life. Being happy within yourself is so important, and nurturing your close relationships is super important too. Matt and I are very good at giving each other pep talks and cheering each other up if we ever have a bad day, and that support network is so vital!

All Of The Things That Made Me Happy Last Week

Hi, loves! Today’s post is another talking about everything that’s made me happy over the past week. As the title may suggest. *shrugs shoulders* I really love writing these posts – you can read my previous ones here and here – and I get so many lovely messages from people saying that they notice the little things more after reading them, and in turn feel happier too! I’ve had another weird week where I’ve felt super anxious and a little bit off, so I dived deep and looked at all the happy, positive things in my life! I try so hard to do this every day, but it’s really so easy to forget and sometimes we need a little reminder. Getting bogged down with silly mundane things like traffic, someone else’s bad attitude or the weather is SO common, but it doesn’t have to ruin your day!

This was from the week before Matt and I left for Croatia so I really had a lot to be happy about 🙂 about mid-week my anxiety finally tailed off, and I felt so much brighter, happier and genuinely so excited for our holiday! Also, I like to include way more photos in these posts normally but I forgot to take relevant photos each day as I was super pre-occupied with things I needed to do before my holiday, I’m sorry!

SUNDAY
– Matt and I got to lay in for the first time in weeks, it was bliss
– I watched Jade Billington‘s first two Disney vlogs whilst getting ready. I love her so much, her videos always leave me feeling so happy but travel/Disney vlogs? Come on!
– date day with my love. We went to Wagamama’s, which is our favourite place for lunch! Matt had chilli steak ramen and I got udon noodles with steak. It was SO. GOOD.
– I met an Internet friend in real life! It was so so lovely to see her, and meet her adorable little daughter who loved Matt. Babies always are attracted to Matt, it’s the cutest thing ever #broody
– finishing up my holiday clothes shopping, finally. I literally felt 10000 x more relaxed (and excited) once I’d picked up the last few bits
– the smell of my banana hair mask from The Body Shop
– having a cosy night at home with Matt’s parents. They’re so good to us and I feel so so lucky to have them!

MONDAY
– snuggles in bed
– Cheerios with Alpro almond coconut milk. This will never not make me happy
– I got our grocery shop done in record time AND came in under budget. Double win!
– picking up our Kuna (Croatian currency) for our holiday! I love that feeling when you pick up your money and it all suddenly feels real
– the best long shower
– getting lots of blog photos taken. I love love love writing my blog but I do sometimes get super stressed about not having photographs ready to go with my upcoming posts!
– I had dinner ready for Matt coming home and it was so good (if I do say so myself). We had cod with mash and veggies!

TUESDAY
– Matt’s cute little face when I brought him a cup of tea in bed. I do this most mornings (when we have time) and he always looks so happy!
– driving past all the cute little bunnies outside of our estate
– listening to this podcast on the way to work. I’m literally obsessed with Chris & Rosie, they’re so flipping funny
– the ice cream van came round the industrial estate I work on and we ran out to get an ice cream like children. What holiday body?
– I had such a quick, easy day at work
– another cosy night in with Matt and his parents. I just love my second family!
– the most beautiful sunset (photos did NOT do it justice sadly)

WEDNESDAY
– we woke up to the sound of heavy rain. I love rainy mornings
– spending my lunch break shopping with my co-worker
– coming home to the smell of Spanish Chicken in the crockpot. Bae did good
– seeing Matt’s sweet grandma. We set up her new TV and she was so happy it just melted my heart!
– watching the women’s world cup, eating pick n mix with Matthew
– hitting over 10,000 steps on my Fitbit
– Matt and I snuggled up in bed and fell right to sleep, this never happens but we slept so good!

THURSDAY
– morning cuddles (I could have said this every day LOL)
– a hot cup of tea
– picking up our groceries/last minute holiday bits before work. I just really enjoy ticking things off my to do list
– my last holiday delivery arrived! I absolutely love these earrings I ordered, I seen them weeks ago and was planning to pick them up in the airport, but then they went on sale for HALF PRICE. Usually I buy things then they get reduced, so that was great! I can’t wait to wear them throughout the Summer 🙂
– that post-hair wash feeling
– picking Matt up from his night out! I’d literally dropped him off a few hours before but I missed spending my night with him haha
– driving late at night, it’s just so peaceful

FRIDAY
– working on the blog for an hour when Matt left for work. I was snuggled up under our duvet, with a candle burning and a cup of tea. Bliss
– a croissant from Lidl’s bakery. If you know, you know
– ticking off everything (well except one non-important) thing on my to do list at work
– setting my out of office for a week and a half! At this point I’m SO EXCITED for our holiday
– an ice cold Diet Coke
– cooking dinner with Matthew
– snuggling up and watching Brooklyn 99, it’s our favourite

SATURDAY
– I had a lot of fun waking Matt up by being super annoying and kissing/cuddling him a little too much. He loved it as much as I did really
– making bacon sandwiches for breakfast
– seeing my sweet grandma
– painting my toe nails, I only really bother to do it for holidays/special occasions haha
– I finished up packing and have plenty of space to bring back cute souvenirs
– that holiday eve feeling
– Chinese for dinner with bae
